We finally got around to doing the step in front of the bedroom front window couch. This time we used peel-and-stick vinyl planks instead of the thicker click-together planks that we used in the dining room slide. We still used the same "stair nose" corner molding applied with construction adhesive. The adhesive on the planks did not perform well against the cheap soft plywood sub-base, so I followed up with short brad nails here and there. They disappear into the planks, esp. since the existing finish is already a shade of grey. Doing again, I would use the click-together planks, tacked in the corner with brad nails to hold them steady on travel days.
It was still easier and looks better than we thought it would be.

Edit: I see that the colors of the floor look different in the before and after photos; the floor is the same but the lighting and time of day are different, making the floor of "the before" photo look more yellow. They are the same. And then there is the cat...
