Replacing Halogen's With LED's?

I finally received the LED's for the dome fixture over my table. I felt good because every other bulb in the camper is an LED. Of course, I turned around and noticed one of the halogen lights over the kitchen sink is out. You can never win. lol

So I removed the bulb from one of the fixtures and it doesn't have any indication as to what type of bulb it is. Anyone have any idea? This is for my White Hawk.

Along those same lines, should I bother with searching for an LED replacement or should I stick with the halogen? If the LED's are much dimmer then I'll probably stick with the halogens. Any idea?

Do they have side pins? If so I replaced all of the ones in my Greyhawk with LEDs. The light is as Bright as the halogen lights they replaced and 1/10 the the heat and power.

If that bulb is the same as it is in my unit, it's a G4 20w 12v Halogen. I had to replace one over the sink on our first trip last weekend. I also would like to replace them with LEDs. The ones available at the Lowes I stopped at were pretty pricey, and not bright enough for my taste, they were like 2w.

I think in LED, you want like 4w to get similar brightness as a 20w halogen. A halogen will put out like 350 lumens, a 4w led will put out like 320. The temperature designation seems to indicate what kind of color you will get.

To me it seems like the most difficult thing will be to find an led that will fit in that fixture. I don't think the drum shaped ones will fit. I'd like to find one that is flat with all the diodes facing down, but I'm afraid the wafer shape of the ones I've seen will be to big for the fixture. I'm going to take measurements to be sure next time I'm out...

I like them. Even better the DW didn't notice that I changed the bulbs. The reduced heat and battery use is worth the money. I paid about $15 per bulb.

I love the LED bulbs...replaced nearly all my old bulbs with LEDs whether burned out or not. The best place to shop for them is pretty much Amazon. You will need to know what type you require...there are many different ones and even some automotive styles will work with no problem.
