Replacing Tstat in 2018 Greyhawk going digital

I had done this mod in our Jay flight and took the digital tstat with me when we sold jt. I just removed the tstat in the greyhawk to find these blue little clips which I've never seen before. What's the best way to go about this? Nothing is ever easy. [emoji38]

It is just a connector that I would cut off. Many people call them a t tap. Two wires go into it and a metal blade/tab cuts into the wires to join them.

I have never tried to reuse them, doubt you can. You can buy them at any auto parts store or box home improvement store should have them too.

Pitch them, wire nuts would be better.

PS: Be careful when doing the replacement, a buddy fried his new thermostat by touching the wrong 2 wires together. Best remove battery voltage with a cutoff switch before starting.

I'm not familiar with the 12vdc system but just make sure the heater or ac won't come on. Maybe someone with one can offer an answer.

Those connectors are used mostly to add trailer lights to a vehicle and when exposed to weather and vibration will always cause trouble later on.

What thermostat are you going to use? Please keep us updated how it goes. Very interested....

Also do you have 1 or 2 AC units? If 2 are you replacing the second thermostat also?

I have 2 Ac's but the 2nd tstat in the bedroom is just for cooling. I might still replace it. The old school slider style are not that accurate. For the main tstat up front I'm using the rv comfort coleman mach digital tstat. Was about 45$ on amazonClick image for larger version

Done! Much better!!

I can't recall does the furnace have 1 fan speed only? So high/ low is only for the AC correct? I tested the heat with high and low fan and it sounded the same but AC was a huge difference. Click image for larger version

Use cap nuts for these connections. They can be purchased for the size of the wire. I would assume this is about #18 wire or very close. Using to big a wire nut will not hold properly.

Trim ends with about 3/8 inch insulation off both wires.
Twist copper together until you have a pointed bundle.
Screw on the wire nut to firmly join the wires. If a gentle tug pulls one out try again.
Wrap the wire nut onto the wires with 3 to 5 turns of electrical tape.

This should give you a solid connection for the life of the RV.

It looks like the same one I have in my fiver. My furnance only has one speed. The lo/hi is for the ac.

Tip: Just buy the same one for your 2nd ac that has no heat. Its the same unit so if you ever need to swap them you can. Also the ac only thermostat costs more than he one you have. I just tied off the 2 unused heater wires and covered the heat controls on the outside.

You will never regret going digital on the ac's.
