Research Your Dealer well before buying

My Jayco friends. I just wanted to share something that just might help someone in the future. We purchased a 2017 Jay Flight 29 RKS three weeks ago. It was to be our dream RV, and it still is.

I thought I found a good reputable dealer, that not only had good prices, but also had outstanding service. When we picked it up, our RV, it wasn't ready, we had to stay overnight. The walk through lasted 15 minutes. We also bought a new hitch/sway bar system/and braking system too. Again, took longer than expected. We drive 480 miles to get home. Electrical problem exists. Some of the overhead lights quit working, TV antenna came loose, slide is out of alignment, and when I called the dealer that said, for me try and call some dealers in my area (which I have none).

I called Jayco, and spoke to two very nice ladies, but could only tell me that I really should go back 480 miles to my dealer. I have two RV repair shops within 20 miles of our home. But both that stopped doing work warranty work for Jayco because of the difficullty getting paid.

I thought I had done my homework well. I am glad we bought the Jayco, and I am sure we will find a way to work this out. But if I had all over again, I would have done a better job researching my future dealer. And I would have stayed over for a night for or two (close to the dealer) before leaving for home.

Again, hope this might help someone else.

In conclusion, I have dedic

This unfortunately seems to happen quite frequently. I know now (what I didn't know back then) to do a hard core PDI. Don't let anything "slide" till later and once they are paid most dealers forget you exist.

Rest assured our next PDI will be better than the 15-20 minute run through we got too. They will be hooking everything up and I'll probably do a parking lot stay overnight to run it all.

Here are some suggestions;

Before making an actual purchase do enough research (like in the manufacturers forums) to satisfy any questions you may have, visit different dealers, attend RV shows if possible and maybe rent an RV and mingle with other RVers...people are happy to talk aout their RV and the dealer experience they had.

Looks like the OP just joined the Jayco Forums and hope you have safe travels.

Your post is an affirmation of my decision to pay a "competitive" price for my 29RKS, based on the proximity and reputation of the dealer. Some here advocate a "lowest" price purchase strategy, claiming that by saving "thousands", you can afford to "just pay" for repairs that otherwise would by covered by the warranty. I did shop around and I did pay more than some quotes I received from some volume dealers. (I live in Indiana, and there are some really great "deals" around) But, within 30 days of taking delivery, my short list of warranty issues were taken care of immediately, I was treated with courtesy and the respect reserved for a "valued" customer. I'm not sure what that value is to the "price" shopper, but, for my peace of mind, worth every penny I paid above the "best" price I was quoted. For me, the situation you have described, would be very frustrating.

RV Brands and Dealers

If I would have found a forum like this before I purchased our Jay Flight a few weeks ago, I would have a done things much different. Folks on this forum are a true asset in many ways. And their honesty is priceless.

This was an expensive price to pay for my mistakes. My only hope now is that Jayco will do the right thing, and that they will resolve some of my problems.
I have no trust or desire to return to the dealer. They have been totally useless up to this point.

Jayco will approve warranty service at the dealer of your choosing so not to worry.

I look for the lowest price...period. I have no work done at the dealer I purchase from. All work (warranty work too) is done by a small RV shop that has been doing all my work for years. Of course not everybody has this arrangement so you gotta do what ya gotta do...
