Residential Electric Refrigerator or Electric/Gas

Hello,

I am ordering a new RV and it comes with a standard residential electric refrigerator or one with gas/electric with an upcharge. Which is better? I understand the invertor kicks in and runs the standard refrigerator when not on shore or generator power but how long does it last if not hooked up to shore or generator? Should I go with gas/electric?

Do you mostly camp with full hookups or without? I’d get residential if u mostly camp full hookups or gas/electric if you mostly camp without full hookups/boondock.

My quick opinion - if you always have electric hookup, go with the residential. The inverter should be able to power it while driving if the battery is up to snuff and the charging system is working.

If you dry camp, gas is the only way to go. Otherwise you will need a lot of battery capacity and a way of constantly recharging them. This means running a generator or a heck of a lot of solar which is only good during the day.

I have always had the propane style fridges and never had any problems.

Looks like you are Florida, so I’m guessing you will have hookups most of the time. In that case go residential. You get a some charge from the truck to extend range. I’ve ran on batteries for 12 hours and still had battery life, most people say with 2 batteries you can go at least 24hrs.
You get more room, quicker and colder cooling, cheaper, and more reliable. If you camp with hookups I would not even consider gas.
