Anode Rod?

Why do some trailer hot water tanks come with a Anode Rod and others do not.

Should I buy one if my hot water tank did not come with one?

Steel tanks use anode rods
Aluminum tanks do not

NO, ALM tanks do not use an anode rod.

Some people do, but as was said they are not needed and I never did. You will find others that say it helps. So if you do, make sure it has an aluminum plug vs a steel plug or you may never get it back out.

I think there is a very long thread (probably more than one) about this topic along with some who did add one and what they did to avoid metal issues when adding one to an aluminum tank.

If it came without one why add one. The manufacturer thought that it was not needed why would we?

My Attwood water heater did not have an anode, but my Suburban water heater on my current trailer does. It depends on the model and tank design. If it did not come with one OEM, you don't need one.

...need some help. The neighbor (RVer) suggested an anode but I read conflicting info depending on model. My 2015 184BH doesn’t have one. Please shed some light, thnx a lot!

Your 184BH probably has the same Atwood water heater that our '15 195RB did. No anode rod is required for the Atwood water heaters as they are aluminum. Our current ORV has a Suburban water heater which has a porcelain-lined steel tank which does require an anode rod in order to prevent corrosion of the steel tank.

An anode rod is a sacrificial metal that attracts the corrosive elements in your hot water tank. If you don't use one, your tank will become the sacrificial metal which will lead to corrosion eating through it and it eventually leaking.

Not on a Atwood water heater. Different kind of tank.

I’ll go without after reading this (thnx All for the comments): “If you have an Atwood water heater, your water heater tank is aluminum and does not require one.”
