Roof Air Deflectors
How many of you use a Roof Air Deflector ?

Been thinking of getting one. Is it really worth it ? Big difference on the wind drag?

I don't use one, but looked into them a few years back. The info I ran across stated that in order for them to make a notable difference the deflector had to be big enough to deflect the air above the TT and around the sides of the TT.

Save your money and time.
I tried towing thousands of miles with and with an air deflector.
I found only marginal improvements in fuel economy. Not enough to justify the cost of the equipemnt and the time to put it on and take it off.

The pay back is somewhere around a half a million miles. The one in the picture wouldn't do a thing unless the truck had a topper and the wing mounted on that.

Yep the payback on those is way too long.... and if you dont drop it every time you unhook then you are loosing mpg solo...

Oh and that tailgate drag thing they mention while solo is bolderdash... USC used a wind tunnel to prove that an air bubble forms in the back of a pickup when solo with the tailgate up and you get better mileage with it than with the TG down.

Seann45, I also saw this done on MythBusters. They said the same thing. It actually creates more drag on the bed of your truck if you leave the tailgate down. With it up it does create a "vortex" of air that keeps spinning and helps to deflect air over the tailgate. Gotta love MythBusters!

We had an air deflector on a previous tv- Didn't seem to help fuel use, but did keep most of the bugs off the front cap of the fiver- JMHO- Don

Yes, it sure does reduce the bugs on the front cap.
