Roof repair

I have a 2018 Jayco 29RLSS. 1 year old in Sept. Noticed a couple weeks a go a split as the membrane rolls over the edge near the ladder. Took pictures and went back to Camping World (dealer). Scheduled to take it back in Oct for full roof replacement.

Crabman,

Jayco sent my RV dealer a "process" for the repair and I plan to ask for a copy tomorrow. My understanding is that it was very similar to what the 'OP' described in his post #6....., not a full roof replacement (not required). If I find out anything different I will let you know.

When I spoke with the service manger I was advised that it will be a 3-4 hour repair process which sounds about right.

Bob

Be very careful dragging a hose over that lip. It can also cause similar damage.

"Full Roof Replacement"

Correct that's what I was told. Along the back edge you can feel the siding pressing on the membrane roof as it rolls over the roof. The original picture shows the siding pushing up. I haven't looked the sides over yet but will inspect it some more. My concern is whats not going to work after everything is taken off the roof and re-installed. Some of the workmans ship the dealer has done is not the best.

Sounds like you may have two stay on top of the dealer the best one can.

I would request a copy of Jayco's response to the dealership's service warranty request, this should give you insight of Jayco's approved repair scope/requirements.

Confirm that the dealership will be re-applying new Butyl putty tape (remove old) behind all the removed trim molding (attaches the new EPDM material to side/rear walls), and also apply a new bead of Dicor caulk along the top edge of the same trim molding after excess Butyl putty tape has been trimmed off. I would 'assume' that a new A/C roof seal would be installed (?).

Before leaving the dealership I would get on the roof and insure that adequate caulking has been re-applied at all front/rear roof cap joints, vents, antenna, stink pipes, ladder, etc.. Check that re-installed skylights didn't get damaged (cracks, etc.) from over-torque mounting screws. Also insure that the awning fabric where it attaches to the gutter rail/trim molding didn't get damaged (torn, etc.) during the repair.

Just food for thought....

Bob

I picked up my TT from the dealer today and the raised "metal edge" issue has been repaired and the only witness marks that there was a repair is the fresh sealants, that's a good thing

Roof manufacturing defect

Just wondering, how long did the dealer keep your TT for this work? I winterized mine and don't expect it back till January or later.

On mine which was not complete roof replacement, it took them a couple months, including having to redo it after I went to pick it up, inspected it, and found their tech had not taken the too-high metal edge down everywhere it was too high. Do a thorough inspection of all repairs, was my lesson learned.

I dropped my TT off at the dealer on October 4th, picked it up October 24th. I also had the vertical wiper seal on 6 windows replaced under warranty as well.

I was told that there was a delay due to a few techs in manufacture training for a week.

Update on my full roof replacement. Carried it in October 16, got it back today, November 22. Climbed on the roof. Everything looks Ok. Plenty of sealant and they cut back the aluminum siding which was the problem. Got home checked everything out and everything works A/C, TV, and rear A/C. Only disappointment was they charged me full price to switch out the main sky light out to a white. Got to much heat thru the clear one. At the moment I can live with that. Will put a protectant on it in the next few days.

When I went to pick my trailer up it was cloudy. I walked over the roof, looked ok. Workmanship not the best. Today sunny went up on the roof to wrap it up with cover. There were 7-8 places that felt like rock under the roof, one place had a hole in the roof. Several places, gobs of self leveling looks like that they covered a tear This isn't going to last . Took pictures of all the defects, email Camping World. They called and it goes back Monday for second roof replacement. Also complained about the dents and bent moldings and poor workmanship. Very hard to maintain my cool. They were nice and promised to make it right.

We're scheduled for a roof replacement Feb 3, but we're taking it back to the factory to have it done. It's worth the 4 hour drive for us, but we're retired, and will make a mini-vacation out of the trip. Also, while it's there, they will take care of our punchlist of random issues.

I agree, not an easy situation to maintain one's cool, I would be struggling .

My first reaction to Camping World would be what are they going to do different that insures the 2nd time around will meet everybody's expectations, especially since this is on Camping World's dime and not Jayco's this time??

Also, due to the scope/cost of the initial Jayco service warranty claim I would contact Jayco ASAP and advise them of the recent turn of events...., they may get involved (hold back original warranty claim $$ ??)

Just wondering why you would get the whole roof replaced for one small tear? I agree it shouldn't have happened in the first place, but the last thing I would have done is to get a dealer to replace it. Sure the tear will be gone, but the dealer probably caused another 6-7 issues that weren't there before. Lets face it, all trailers are junk !! Buy new, and then get rid of it after 4 years. If you're not somewhat mechanically inclined, then do yourself a favor and stay in hotels. Trailers are a constant nuisance and need tons of maintenance. I would have repaired that tear myself and gone after Jayco for a cheque for half the value of that roof replacement.
