Run completely out of LP

We are in key west (again) fit a month.Our first couple days here it was really windy 24-30 mph .I lit the pilot light and we headed to ducal for the eve.When we got home I not check light on Fridge was on?Next morn awoke to no hot water.Checked LP and it was empty.Wind blew pilot light out and I guess drained the tank?Filled tank,relit and it took a few tries.BUT ALWAYS TURN FULL TANK ON SLOWLY!!!If not it will trip safety and be air locked.A lesson learned for me.Would not light UNTIL I turned tank off and turned back in really slow!

There is something wrong with your gas system. If the pilot light went out, the thermocouple should shut off the gas completely. Even if the pilot light went out, and the valve didn't close automatically, the slow flow from the pilot light should not drain a tank for many days.

I would recommend getting your system checked out by a professional.

I think it’s fine.I filled new tank 48 hrs ago and no problems.

I agree with us71na. If a full tank went dry overnight you have something leaking. LP dealers that sell and service can use a sniffer to find the leak. Not a guy who fills it at a store but a real LP delivery and equipment company. My tank will last many days running the stove, fridge and water heater. A single pilot light would run for weeks on a full tank.
