Running generator while driving???

Hi folks.
I have a friend with an older class a. His air conditioning in the drivers area is run from the compressor in the engine. His rear AC (rooftop) only runs from the shore power or Generator.
His question to me was "can I run the generator while driving to run the rear AC?".
Now in my boat I run the generator when moving, so why not here?
He has been told everything from it is illegal to you should never have the engine and generator running at the same time. But all the answers he has been given have no real explanation to them.

Any help in clearing up this mystery would be greatly appreciated.

I see people do it all of the time. Just tell him to check the batteries in the C02 detector!

During the dealer walk through they said I would get better mileage using the generator for ac while driving. Our last trip a Minnie Winni pulled in next to us with the genny running. I never tried it for MPG or otherwise yet.

Friend of mine has a 35' class A and he runs the generator while driving when he has the family in the RV. It's just to hot in Florida not to have the RV air conditioned with people in it.

It's not uncommon, I'm a boater and we run boat generators from the time we unplug the shore power to the time we plug it back in. Got to keep the AC and fridge cold on a hot summer day.

Many people do it. Just remember geny will shut down when you get close or at a 1/4' tank of gas.

Yes friend with a Class A lost his vehicle A/C in AZ last year and started the gen set till he was able to get the vehicle A/C repaired. AZ is not a place to be w/o A/C.
