RV Availability?

I have heard many comments recently about not being able to buy an RV due to no availability. I went buy Gander Mountain (Camping World) in Spring, Tx yesterday and the entire lot was FULL. Not sure if a lot of them are in for service, but I find it hard to believe that they are all sold.

Camping world in Greenville NC had a lot full last week. Mostly pull behinds and a few scattered 5th wheels and Class A's. Coleman seemed to be well represented.

What are the prices like for someone that is trying to sell a very good used 5th wheel that just no longer needs it?

Last year I noticed the lots had very few rigs in them.

The dealership near my parent's place this spring I could count the rigs in the lot as I drove past at 60 mph. This summer, the lot was much fuller, no way could I count the rigs, but there was still a lot of open space. At Christmas, I would suspect the lot was 80% full.

We are looking at new rigs, and I have noticed the discount price listed on dealer sites are around 30-31% off MSRP. That is also a good sign.

Oh yeah...they're out there. Have you priced one lately? Sure dealers have them, but you're gonna pay dearly.

Opps, typo, was suppose to say 20-31% off MSRP.

I go through Henderson, NV on many occasions. On one trip I stopped at Camping World to pick up a few things. I could hardly find a parking place, the lot was FULL of RV's; Class A's & C's, 5th wheels and travel trailers. Looked like an RV show going on. While checking out I asked a service guy about the lot being so full. He said they were ALL waiting for service or parts.

No way I would ever leave my RV for weeks at a time in their unsecured parking lot. It was a real mess!

A few months ago my dealer mentioned they are delivering about half of their sales, the rest they are waiting on something to install before the customer could take delivery. Seemed to be appliances and panels.

I suspect that is probably what we are seeing. A lot of mfgs had lots full of WIP units waiting on final parts. They never really slowed down production, but the supply chain was stopping completion and delivery. As parts start coming back in again, those mostly completed units can be finished very quickly and sent out, so we are probably seeing the backlog finally coming in and catching up with demand. (Kind of line those hundreds of Blackstone grills that arrived over the last few weeks.) Hope that means that pricing returns to something near normal.

This situation may benefit the dealers on new units for stock. If they are on a floor plan agreement with the manufacturer or line of credit with a bank maybe they do not have to accept official delivery on a unit until the unit is complete. Something to show and sell before they start paying.

Yeah, but the problem is they jacked up the MSRP.

The unit I bought 5 years ago on 30% discount at $30k is going for discounted $53k now.

We were at a RV show & they ran a "NADA" on our unit. Needless to say, we are definitely keeping our unit.

We recently (like this month) sold our 4 year old SOB Class A MH to a dealer as a trade-in and got about 87% of the original sale price we purchased it for brand new (not including taxes, tags and whatnot, if you include those, it was 82%). It’s a bunk model and it’s a motorhome, both of which are still apparently in high demand. So, if you have something they want, you may be able to get much more than you’d expect.

Like others said above, the prices are very high. The unit we replaced it with has gone up by a 3% once the ball dropped in Times Square. I’m glad we settled on a price back in 2021.

If you’re just selling and not re-purchasing, going private may be the way to go to get an even higher sales price, but may incur more time and/or risk on your part. Consignment may be an alternative as well.

https://nadaguides.com/rvs may be able to give you an idea of where you’re at. Just remember that it shows *retail* prices, but dealers use wholesale. We managed to get a little more than Low Retail from our dealer, which is very unusual from experience. It’s typically lower than Low Retail, sometimes much less.
