Not perfect, but a TPMS could really help prevent these things. The technology and cost of systems these days make them a great option. Now, they do not make speeding or not being buckled in smart moves, but a good system gives an extra layer of protection. Before we take our first long distance trip with more highway miles at higher speeds, our 31FS will have a TPMS on board!

TPMS was mandated in passenger vehicles and light trucks a few years ago... Are MHs exempt from the mandate?

I would guess yes as they are not factory installed, or even a factory option.

I think the new Super Cs have them but their build on real semi tractor chassis.

... that might have turned out a lot different if he had been driving the speed that I see most motorhomes (piloted by old-timers) drive at. Most motorhomes I see on the highway are travelling well under the posted speed limit and seem to be extra cautious.

Scary indeed. Summer of 2013, my wife and I were westbound on a busy highway in northern Alberta. An oncoming gravel truck lost his right front steering tire. I noticed the right side of the truck suddenly seem to start growing bigger. Sure enough, the tire came out from the truck and crossed the highway behind us. I can only imagine the phone call from that poor driver to the shop.
