rv propane heater running while driving.

Is it safe to leave my Propane heater running while driving?. I have not tryed it, just wanted to know if others do this?

I don't see why not. We run generator while driving in the summer for AC and fridge on propane..

I was told to watch out were you park your trailer when fueling up.

Depending on how much it runs, you might run the battery down? The charge line from the truck for the 12V is little more than a trickle charge, so certainly not enough to keep up with the demands of the furnace's blower fan.

Other than that, I don't see why you couldn't run it. We never did in the trailer and we don't in the MH now, but then we haven't traveled in temperatures that would require the furnace to be running while underway...

Would the wind, going down the road, have any effect on the exhaust or blowing out the flame? Some people have stated they had issues keeping their fridge running on propane when moving down the road.

I have heard about a lot of MH's running with the furnace on.

Yes you can run the propane furnace on your trailer while driving.

My dad had a nursery business in which we delivered product year around, we used 5th wheel cargo trailers with RV furnaces, ran them 24 hours a day if needed, never had issues, we had at least 10 trailers with that setup over the years, never a problem.

Thanks folks, I was hoping others had done this, I want to go camping and its cold here, but when we stop for travel breaks would like to go in a trailer that isn't freezing cold.

On our 5th wheel when the slide is in it covers two heater discharge vents so we don't do that. I would give it a try on ours if it wasn't for that.

The question of running the propane refrigerator while fueling is eternal. it is such a small flame that it is probably not an issue, however running the furnace is a different matter. This is a flame thrower in comparison.

2017 Freedom Elite C .My dash air & heat are enough with out extra air or heat.

As a retired Firefighter I would never travel with my propane on. Wonderful source if ignition which can set your whole ride on fire. See those big black burnt spots on the road? Most of them are RVs that have burnt up. Keep it safe out there.

I agree with you, as also a former firefighter, most of those black spots are from burned up cars.

I know that it is against to travel in NYC. With propane tanks open. Might want to check the rules/laws on your route. I agree with retired fireman’s post that I would not do it

We have done it many times since being a full timer for 3 years. We find we get better gas mileage using generator and running central unit rather than dash air/ heat in our motorhome.
We do shut it down while fueling.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but when my RV is driving down the road, propane is turned OFF at the tank. Even if you are not using all the propane appliances, if you leave the propane on, all the lines are pressurized. You have lines running to the stove top, the oven, the refrigerator, the water heater, the outside propane connection, to the heater at least. There is too much chance for a connection to wiggle loose when driving, too much chance for a line to be ruptured from even a minor accident or road debris. I have seen too many RV fires. A refrigerator will stay cold a long time with the door shut, no need to keep it running when you travel. If I'm going to be on the road a long time, i might turn on the propane and let the fridge cool off when I am stopped for lunch, then turn it off when I hit the road. And if that's not enough, i would run my generator while driving before I would leave the propane on.
