Mom & Dad have always stopped at Prince William just south of DC.

When we vacationed near myrtle beach, we spent the night in Fredricksburg, just over an hour south of DC.

Google shows 7hr 21 min to Selma, NC. We stayed there at RVacation Campground last month. Nice, and right off the interstate, easy in and out. That might be stretching it though, with the traffic you're likely to encounter.
