San Diego/ Chula Vista Route

Will be heading to Chula Vista RV resort the first week of Dec. It will be our first trip to the area towing our 5th Wheel. We will be heading in from Tucson on 8 West. RV Trip Wizard has us on 8 West to Ca-125S to Ca-54S to 5S. to the RV Park. I've driven the route a couple of times in the past 3 months heading to Coronado Island. I can say that I have not seen alot of TT, 5'ers or motorhomes
on the Ca-125S or the Ca-54S freeways. Anyone out there driven that route? Or would it be better to take 8 West all the way to 5 South? Not as direct, but maybe easier? Thanks for the replies.

I live in San Diego County. My daughter and son in law live in Bonita which is right next door to Chula Vista. First of all the 125 is a toll road. Count your axles and get out your checkbook! I would avoid as it will not save much time anyway.
My advice would be to get off on the 54 aka Jamacha Road at 2nd street, exit 19 and stay on 54 all the way to either the 805 or 5. Depends on where your park is at as to whether 805 or 5 best for you. This advice is dependant on your time of travel. If you are hitting the outskirts of our traffic between 730 and 10 am. then do not turn off and slug on the 8 over to the 5 south particularly if in the am as traffic moving north in morning and south at night. Hope this helps.

Gunfighter, Thanks for your response. After you mentioned "Toll road" it made me pull out my Motor Carriers Road Atlas and check my route. I do take Ca-125S until it splits with CA-54S. At that point Ca-125S becomes the South Bay Expressway which as you said a toll road. Lucky for me I take CA-54S. Not sure what traffic will be like at around 3PM on a Monday. Thanks again for your help.

At 3 pm you should be fine going west. 54 is a good road. Enjoy what we call "the south bay."
