Question sanitize tanks, but plastic tub...

Hey all, we have a 2014 jayco daylight 22fb. I need to sanitize the water tank but we're told that bleach, or products that contain bleach will cause the ABS plastic shower and kitchen sink to yellow. Anybody have any ideas how I can sanitize the tank and lines without yellowing my tub and sink? I would appreciate it.

You don't use that much bleach so it won't hurt the shower or sink. Your not supposed to use cleaning products containing bleach since it is a much higher concentration. You have to remember that drinking water is chlorinated also.

Normally you don't sanitize any tanks except the fresh water tank and you do that by filling the tank from the outside of the RV with chlorine bleach and water solution. Let it soak for a while then drain the tank from the bottom drain. If you run the sanitizing solution through your water lines you need to follow that up immediately with a thorough fresh water rinse as the sanitizing solution isn't safe to drink. The exposure to your shower and vanity sink should be minimal if you rinse properly.

Just curious, I'm not a clean fanatic and in fact sometimes I don't even wash my hands before I eat. What's inside this plastic tank on a brand new trailer that just plain tap water wouldn't be adequate to flush out? Does the factory put antifreeze in it too? (not that I'm opposed to the bleach solution)

TMI on the hand washing before eating.

Sanitizing your fresh water tank a few times a year will prevent stale water and bacteria buildup between trips.

Yes, it was winterized when we bought it. I am mostly concerned about bacteria. We'll give it a good sanitization and flush soon.

Thanks all.
