Satellite TV service

I do alot of desert camping and the nights can be cool. There is no service for my TV (standard ant.) Thinking of a satellite dish. Can you get a "Pay" as you go type service and which dish works best with easy set up?

get dish service at home and pay 7 bucks for a 2nd receiver to take with you in the rv. All you will need is a dish on a tripod and you can use your home service where ever. Put the extra receiver in a bedroom at home when youre not traveling.

People I've seen doing this are using an old style "standard" definition dish and receiver. Do they offer this in high def?

I have the pathway x2 antenna, fully automatic, high def, and gets both the western and eastern arcs. Combine that with a wallet and you have had programming for most channels. I have dish at home so after I bought the dish and the Wally, both of which can be had for about $450, I pay the $7/mo for the Wally which stays in the RV.

I have Direct TV at home. Is there any reason why I couldn't take one of my receivers with me? Do they make a portable antenna for Direct TV?

Yes, but the domes only receive Standard Def with Direct currently. You would need a tri-pod set up for HD.

You will have to have the H24 Receiver with Direct TV. We just switched from Direct to Dish. Direct is eliminating their SD service, and most of the mobile antenna's for Dish are only SD. (ours included)

If someone is starting out - go the Dish Network route. All you need is a Wally receiver, you can get them for less than $70 new.

I switched from Direct TV to Dish for my rv and it was the best decision I’ve made. They are easy to work with and you can’t start and stop your service on line and only pay for the months you need it. I have the Wally and Wingguard Travler on the roof. It’s HD service. Love it.

Dish is the way to go - Direct is consistently make it more difficult for RVers to use their service Les

Dish here also, turn it on before my trip and turn it off when I get back, only saves $7 a month, but I got other stuff to spend that on.

I bought Dish but have not been happy with the cost and dropped signals when it rains. I purchased a MoFi 4500 router that uses a cell phone SIM card for connectivity to the Internet and now use YouTube TV for my service. The MoFi router let's me stream unlimited data with T-Mobile for $20/month but you can use it with other carriers as well. As long as you have a cell signal TV works great and I use it for my computer as well.

I just pick up a Dish setup I love how simple it is, just call them or I download the app and pay and go.

We do that. Bring our receiver from home. We use a dish on a tripod. No HD though as we have the standard round dish.

Don't have Cable or Satellite at home, don't need it camping! Out there to enjoy nature, no need for a TV.

Yep, we were DirecTV subscribers when we bought our Greyhawk but switched to Dish due to their month to month deal and their available antennas got HD and were, oh I don't know, perhaps $1000 less than what was needed for Direct.

And yeah, you need a $75 tripod too. We got our antenna with a free HD receiver from CW.
