Second A/C

I am looking to install a 2nd A/C unit in the bedroom of our new 338RETS. It is pre-wired for a second A/C - can see the circuit in the distribution panel for it (50 amp service) and the electrical cover in the ceiling of the bedroom. The bedroom, however, doesn't have a vent in the roof. How do you know where to cut the 14" x 14" hole? I would think there would be additional blocking between the trusses

Anyone done this yet?

I always could see the opening on my pups roof in the early morning when the condensation was on it. Unsure whether your roof would do the same. It outlines it pretty clear. But I am sure a call to Jayco engineering would be best in this case

The framing should be right next to the electrical box. Why not contact JAYCO and see if they will send you the roof framing schematic. I know your still under warrany, but you may get lucky.

I would go look at another 338rets and take measurements and cut by that.
That is really odd that there is no vent. I don't recall having ever seen a large bedroom like that with out a vent.
You may have to trim the cut with 2x2 on the inside after cutting. You can buy a vent cover from Walmart cheap to use as a pattern and then use the metal or plastic surround that drops in the hole.
When installing the ac don't over tighten the rods that sucks it down. If you see the metal flange start to flex your good.
I place a ext ladder beside the unit with a old rug placed against side and across top to cutout. I tie a rope to the unit , cover removed, then slide up the ladder until I can grasp by hand. A friend helping would help.
Best price is off eBay, get the unit with the inside part included for the best price. You can't use ducted, get the regular non ducted.

Jayco was kind enough to email me a set of schematics showing 3 pages of truss layout, blocking, ducting, etc. Emailed them last night and it was on my computer this morning (west coast).

Have had a couple questions for them (Jayco customer service) and their response has been great!

We had one added to ours. Word of advice...get the quietest one you can even if it cost more. We didn't because we didn't realize how noisy they can be in such a small space. We really can't run it at night due to the terrible noise. Usually I cool the room down before going to bed, then turn it off and run the living room one only at night. Keep hoping it will break down so we can get a new quiet one..but it's new so guess that won't be anytime soon.

We use our second AC to watch movies and that's the only time it runs. We turn off the front AC and turn on the rear one which makes the living area ambient noise level better for an evening of watching movies.

Other than that the front one cools the camper just fine.

We only use the bed room ac during the day, at night the ducted works fine.
I had it cooled down to 66 last week and it was 97 outside.

There should be a vent where the second AC would go. We use the one in the bedroom during the day and the other one at night when AC is needed. You can't hear them that way.
