Selling Honda EU2000i for Champion 2800/3100?

On rare occasion we might run our TT AC when we dry camp if we had a generator that would support the load. We can't currently do that with our EU2000i so I have been watching Craigslist for a Honda 2000 companion.

Watching CL has shown me I can easily sell my Honda for $700+, and in a couple months when Costco has the Champion on sale again I can pickup a 2800/3100 inverter for the same price which can run my AC.

if you were in my shoes would you make the change?

I'm sure the Honda folks would say "NO"! However I've had a 2000 watt Champion for several years and its been very reliable.

I had a Champion and the 2 things that I did not like was 1 to much noise, 2 the 30 amp plug was controlled by a 25 amp circuit breaker. I have been talking next to a Honda while it was running and we did not have to yell, just normal talking.

The champion you had was one of the newer inverter types?

My Champion 3100 invertor generator runs quiet. I had it running when camping a couple of weeks ago with no complaints from other campers near by. They were impressed how quiet they are.

Champion makes a very good product you will be happy with it... just make sure you can lift the weight... that is the main reason people go with 2 Hondas..

Champion is 58 dB (from Amazon page) and Honda is 59 dB(A) @ rated load 53dB(A) @ 1/4 load (from Honda page).

A single Honda appears to be more noisy. I understand you need 2 Hondas to run A/C.

Is the weight the only concern I should have in relation to buying Champion? Also, where people usually are storing the gen when travelling with TT? I will buy White Hawk - should I add a tray behind the trailer?

I cannot tell you anything about the Champion. I will say that I am quite happy with my Honda EU2000i. Just wish it was enough to run the AC. I am looking for another one to parallel. Thousand bucks is a bunch but it is what it is.

The Champion 3100 in error generator is 85 lbs. I find it easy to load in my truck and the wheels makes it easy to move it around. I am really happy with it.

Super quiet power source 58 dBA at 7 m (23 ft.) <---- note the dba's are rated at 7meaters. I was debating the 2 parallel Honda 2000's or the Honda 3000. Not sure what's best other than the obvious weight of the 3000

2 champion 2000's and the stack kit. No more than $1250 total.
More expensive than the lone 3100, but I can pack them around by myself without busting a gut. I could also use one at home to power tools in the back woods.
I'm assuming that the 3600 total watts would be enough to power my ac, tv, and also charge my battery at the same time?

I came to the conclusion while thinking about storing the generator while traveling.
The generators will have to be in the back of the truck under camper shell since the 3100 wouldn't fit in my pass through storage I don't think. The 2000's I believe would, but I already have things in there that I want in there. Back compartment is full with grill and chill store fridge.

If I'm just stopped for a quick night's sleep and don't want to unhook, I can't imagine lifting the 85 pound 3100 out of my truck with the trailer hitch and propane bottles and stuff there.

There is a chance I could get the 2-2000's in my tt front compartment, I'd need to see after I bought them.

Now all I need is money.

First off, take a look at Wise Sales on the net. They have very good prices on Hondas with no shipping costs, at least the last time I bought from them two years ago. I get both on my 2000s in the front compartment of my FW pretty easily, although lifting them over the lip takes a bit of work for an old man like me.

Ditto about all the thousands of pages about gens. I have 2 Honda 2000i's and couldn't be happier. Started with 1 and after 3 years had a problem with it. Turned out to be an easy repair [fuel pump issue] but by then I had purchased a 2nd one since I couldn't do with out one. Used for Rving and our houseboat, along with bush power on our rural property. Don't regret owning 2 of them and just got off the lake after a week in 90+ degree temps. The pair easily ran my roof top A/C, regular fridge, TV/sat, battery charger, lights and more and used less than 2 gal gas per day running approx. 12 - 16 hours per day with full AC for more than 50% of the time.

Very easy to run just one when not using the AC. The pair easily started the 15 year old roof top AC and ran quietly at moderate speed using ecoswitch.

The ability to use only one that is lighweight around the farm was the ultimate deciding factor I think.
I have a big generator for emergencies but it's impossible to wheel it very far from the house.

Are there any standards how the noise is measured? It would not make any sense that they are giving the noise for Champion from 7 m and for Honda from 4 m.

I do not mind spending $2k for 2 Hondas (I always prefer to make a solid buy instead of having issues down the road), but I just trying to understand the rationale. If Champion is cheaper and makes less noise, what is the point?

I am trying to understand the reasons why people are supporting Hondas that much. Sorry, I am newbie...

Champion is quieter than Honda (either as 3100W model or as 2 2000W units) and significantly cheaper. Is it about reliability of Hondas? What about Champion - I did not see any terrible reviews of Champion.

BTW - this is a common standard to measure the noise from 7 meters, so Champion and Honda db number are comparable (i.e. Champion is quieter).

Tractor Supply has the Champion 4000 for 329 thru end of September.I added the wheel/carry handle along with it.
