The dealer said that the interior of the bumper will eventually rust, causing abrasion to the sewer hose, so we should not bother storing the hose in the bumper. I see a lot of people making their own storage out of PVC round and square fence post tubing. Is it worth all the extra cost and effort?

If you look at my signature, You'll see how old my trailer is. I've been storing the original sewer hose that came with the trailer inside my bumper for that long too.
While I don't know what "mileage" other folks are getting when storing their sewer hose in their bumpers, I consider the length of time mine has lasted (and is still in use) rather respectable. However, I did notice some wear last year and am considering replacing the hose this year simply as a precautionary measure due to its age. You certainly don't want your sewer hose to fail- especially while emptying your black tank.

I have a little door on the side of my Jayco 31SS Class C for the sewer hose. I have never used it for the sewer hose. I store the hose in a plastic bin with a clip on lip. I have a clear plastic elbow on the hose, so when I detach it from the drain pipe, I just place the entire set up into the bin. The hose is usually the last thing to put away and i don't want a wet hose in that little compartment or in the bumper if I had such a set-up. I can even clean the entire hose setup by filling the bin with water and a little bleach. I think I may use the sewer hose compartment to store fishing poles Or maybe to hide my valuables, who would look in there! LOL
We had our Prowler for 13 years and the hose was always in the bumper. We never had a problem.

Our last tt was four years old when we sold it. There were no issues with rusting anywhere on/in bumper. We plan to have this Jayco for 10 years, so in another 8 or so I am pretty confident I can post the rust/no rust situation with my then older Jayco
