Sewer hose seal

Just wondering what everyone's thought is on this subject. Should campgrounds make mandatory that you use a sewer hose seal or something similar when connecting to sewer hook up at campground. I have seen a few instances where people just stuck the end of the hose into the sewer hook up. Must say can get a little smelly at times.

I think if they don't have a threaded connection I can screw my 90 into then they need to upgrade.
When they don't I do the best I can.

I have been to some places that require a threaded connector or "donut". Some places actually say that it's a local code. I carry both for the stinky slinky and my Sewer Solution has both as well and I use them all the time. The only time I don't use some sort of seal is at a dump station.

Mandatory? Aren't we approaching a police state quick enough without requiring the campgrounds to add just one more regulation that they must try and enforce?

I agree folks should be responsible. But you can't regulate the stupid out of some people.

I'm not offended a bit if I don't have to smell my neighbors sewer smells. The sealed sewer connection is a pretty common sense solution to preventing sickness. It's more a communities attempt to provide public health to those that don't know or care.

I carry a rubber donut in my sewer box and use it when the sewer connection is not sealed to my satisfaction. Kinda a no-brainer.

Sorry ctbailey. I live in Canada and must say what is happening in the U.S. is a little scary. I would have to say 98% of people use the proper equipment for the sewer hose. Still the other 2% should be using proper equipment as well.

In some areas it may be required by law or codes to seal that connection - I just booked a reservation at a campground that actually does require it in their park rules. Having said that, DW and I camped at a park in NJ back in 2014 that did not have threaded sewer inlets, so I had to stick the loose end of the sewer hose into the pipe. There was eventually a little spillage. After that trip I went out and got one of those rubber donuts for future use, and of course have never needed it. But doggone it, I'm ready!! IMHO the rubber donut should be part of your standard "kit". And your sewer connection should always be closed tight.

Most of the places we go "require" them in the rules. The only exception to that seems to be the state parks. The ones that do have sewer at the site don't seem to mention this in their policies. I still use my threaded 90 elbow regardless if it's "required"; as stated before, it just makes good sense.

For outlets that don't have threads, they usually have a heavy iron "lid". With that and a rock, I can secure my threaded elbow down into the hole with a fairly tight seal. I have yet to add a rubber "donut" to my kit, just haven't needed one bad enough yet, but it's on my shopping list.

I can't imagine just sticking the hose down in the hole and "hoping for the best".

I remember seeing a guy breaking camp and still shudder when I visualize what I saw that day. He did not have anything but a wire sewer hose and he must have pulled about 4 ft out of the sewer connection and stuffed it in his rig.

Yikes!

Yes, but that's what they are giving the newbies when they purchase their new TT's and that's all they know. I'll admit, that't all I knew at 1st!

EEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!!

Ya know, I've only been doing this 2 years (this time around), but I spent a lot of time making sure I understood things before I went out with my TT and make a complete a$$ of myself.
