Shades to blinds

Have a 72" night shade in my 5er that has seen it better days. Tried to restring it and it sort of fell apart it places. Instead of replacing it with another night/day-night shade thought about replacing it with blinds/mini blinds of some sort. Was thinking it would be easier maintenance/installation if nothing else. Has anyone gone this route?

We had a Rockwood Mini Lite that had mini blinds. I personally didn't like them. They were the aluminum blinds, they bent easily, and the one on the emergency window didn't fit good because of the latch on the window. Also the rod that opens the blinds stayed hidden behind the valance panels (I guess thats what they are called.LOL). Our Jayco has the day/night shades, and I like them much better. Everyone has their own opinion, though.

IMO any day/night shade that wide is prone to fail due to it's width and stress of opening it multiple times. I have replaced them on past rigs and would not hesitate to do it on the Jayco once I get tired of fixing them .
Fortunately they have not been any trouble except for a few needing tightening.

I have heard of folks removing the Lambriquins, or side part of the valence permanently and using a bracket at the bottom to secure the blind bottom.

On my last rig, I mounted the new blinds on the inside of the valence as the valence came new and then attached the valence to the wall. This made it easy to access and remove if needed. Also I had it cut so that I did not need the lower brackets because the shade could not move horizontally.

we found that after this mod, we hardly ever needed to raise them, just adjusted the light or privacy needed with the angle adjustments on the new blind.

I used the vinyl 1 in blinds but have seen some very nice 2 inch mods also.

We happen to be in Lowe's today and bought some nice cellular cordless shades. Look alot like the day/night shades. Will give them a try and see how it goes.

We replaced some of our shades to faux wood blinds in our last trailer. Ordered them to fit on line for a very reasonable price. They even came with a hold down bracket so they did not move when traveling.

I'll be interested in your satisfaction with them. We looked at them and were not sure if they provided enough privacy when closed and no way to adjust in between.

When one of mine gave up the ghost I replaced it with a common roller blind... works well and IMHO looks better than the factory blinds.

We replaced all of our day/night shades with mini blinds. Love them. It was probably the second thing we did to our 31.5 2013 eagle.

We have replace some of our shades in our Eagle from online company Blindster. Excellent service and will send samples of the fabric. We have ordered weatherproof roll up shades for our porch, and are excellent. Give them a try. Happy Camping to all & Merry Christmas

We noticed that there were 3 levels of "shading"; light filtering, room darkening and blackout. We decided to try the middle, room darkening. It has to be better than what we had. I believe it was just a day shade.

It looks like a pretty easy install. Install 3 "L" type brackets and the shades just snap in place. Will be doing this weekend.
