Shop door Clearance

Build a new shop 40 x 40 with 12 x 12 roll up door. I have a 2016 32 BHDS and I am worried about clearance with the roll up door. Jayco advertises the height to be 11'6" so it will be close. Any one have some input?

When we bought out latest Jayco, it was 12'3". Almost a foot higher. It was tight getting under it because of the peaked roof and the radio antenna rattling on the roof as I backed in.

We ended up having to raise the roof a foot. Now it clears enough for me to not worry about backing in directly in the middle.

My roof is going to be 14 foot but door only 12 foot. Find it hard to measure real accurately.

Door

If you have 14 foot side walls you can get a 13 foot door installed in the building. That's what I did with mine and I am glad I did. There is a slight grade leading up to the door and I was concerned about the overhang on the back being up too high when I was backing the MH in.

I would consider a 13' door. Jayco advertised 11'6", but have you flipped the axle or change tire sizes? Also if you get a new 5ver or tv, you may have a higher roofline.

Good luck

Too close for comfort in my opinion. My stepdad had a similar situation with a motorhome and he ended up having to change to low profile A/C units, dumping the air suspension and had to climb up and take the satellite antenna off every time he backed the coach in. He finally got tired of it (probably because we kept telling him he had no business climbing on top of the unit) and shaved off the approach and cut out/dug down and replaced the concrete at the door he was using. He also had them put extra panels in the door so it would close completely.

It's an expensive option, but it got the job done.

I have an Eagle 316RKDS that is advertised as 11'6''. Fit's under my 12' door no problem. 12' wide is a good idea, mine is 10' wide and it doesn't leave much margin.

Like you, I just had a 36 (deep) x 28 (wide) x 16 (tall) building completed to store the coach. The coach is 32 feet long by 11.5 feet tall.

The coach door is 12 (wide) X 14 (tall) to insure easy entry. The other door is 10x10 to accommodate other stuff into the building. Thus far everything has worked out very well.

I placed the coach in the center of entry door, painted a High-Vis 3" line along the side of the coach so I could follow the line by looking in the mirror on the driver's side and back up with ease. I installed two 4x4 blocks to stop the coach from hitting the rear wall.

I've built all mine with the openings 12' wide and 14' tall just to make sure anything we decide to buy fits.

Get a 8' 2x4 put it on the highest point, probably a/c unit put your level on the 2x4 then measure distance from bottom of board to the ground. (best done with 2 people)
