Shore Power Reel Q

You folks with 50amp service who have a cord reel: what brand, do you like it and how many feet do you wind up on it?

I never did like the idea of having my shore power cable visible from the outside when in non-camping mode. Just too big of a theft issue for me...

If the spool is inside out-of-sight then to me that would be fine.

I have a 50amp 36' cable and when it is cold like it has been it's a bit like wrestling a python. i would be interested in a simpler system.

Since the total current draw really never exceeds 40 amp(the gennie which will run the entire coach has a 30 amp main breaker) I bought some 8/4 cord along with a new plug and twist lock and made a new one. Coils up very nicely and is much lighter. The original cord has been in my shed since the week after I brought the MH home.

Yesterday UPS delivered a Mor/Ryde reel. I will not get a chance to use it until mid-April. Tweetys will give JOF members a discount (5%). With free shipping they had the best price. I am impressed with the quality and reviews by users have been very good. I believe it will accommodate a 50 amp cord that is 50 feet long. I bought the REEL56-001H.

I am also thinking of adding the Mor/ryde tall to our 5er. On the 2014 Pinnacles, Jayco installs in right under the automatic leveling control panel.

The Mor-Ryde is what I've been thinking and was hoping someone has it installed and could offer an opinion. I'm just not sure it can wind up my 36' of 6# cable. Grumpy makes an interesting point also. I've also thought of making up a shorter shorter cable (15-20') which would work for most CG's that we've visited and coil the longer one for occasional use. Pretty sure the MR reel could handle 20'.
Side note: installed a Progressive Ind surge suppressor and that 6# solid wire is a bear to work with.

I have a 25' 30 amp/50 amp adaptor cord that I use most of the time when traveling. It's much easier to handle than the 50 amp. When I am in place for extended periods or intend to use both air conditioners I drag out the 50 amp cord.

On the Jayco 5th wheels, the Morryde is an option and I think it is the same 50 amp cord. I saw it installed on a unit at a dealership but the cord wasn't on it. They had it on a 5er right below the auto leveling system. Last summer, at the Good Sam Rally in Syracuse, I spoke to the Morryde rep and he said the standard 50amp cord would roll up without any problems and it would handle up to 50 feet. I was thinking about getting one at that time but wanted to trade in RV first.
