Should I be Scared??

I came home from work yesterday and the DW tells me she was surfing the internet during the day...She tells me that she found an Eagle 355MBQS 5er at one of the DFW local dealers. She then proceeds to ask me if we can go "look" at it this Saturday. Any advice?

Dan

It sounds to me like you already know the answer. Just sign and the enjoy your new 5er.

Don't be scared. Just let her know that when your done at the RV dealership you will need to make a "quick" stop at your favorite truck dealership.

Know what your current trailer is worth privately before you sign! They are going to offer you 6-8K less than the sales price is my guess, so prepare you and your DW for the realities of this. Have a game plan in hand and I would also get a quote from RV direct just to have as a benchmark for what a "real good deal is". If you don't go in educated IMHO it is a huge disadvantge to you when your at the table talking numbers. I am usually the one doing the "looking" but DW knows I do my homework so trusts my decisions.

Also I see in your sig you have a Mega Cab, extra short bed. That is going to require a sliding hitch to clear your cab and possibly some bags to handle the pin weight. Tons of options there so also do your homework as they can get expensive.

Engine and tranny are fine, just the springs need a little more beef like a 3500SRW IMHO.

My 2 cents to make it more enjoyable.

Y'all crack me up...and to top it off, are full of great advice! Got the RV Direct quote in hand and have the estimates for bags and slider. The only reason I'm hesitant about the deal is that I got the 5 yr warranty from dealership for free when we purchased BHBE. I hate to give up that piece of mind.

That's another bargaining point. If the warranty is transferable you've got yet another.
Enjoy the new rig!

Dan, didn't you just get done upgrading? That's some serious two-foot-itis!

My DW is on the hunt for a boat. Deal is her Xterra has to be able to tow it (not really that big a deal, it towed our old boat like a boss). She's hesitant to separate herself from the cash though. I'm a bit less "conservative" on that front. Carpe Diem! Can't take it with you! Spend it up and live your life to the fullest!! You only get one go 'round!

Edit: And I believe that was post #2001 for me! Woooohoooo!!

Yes, we just upgraded the TV to the Ram in my signature back in December. Now that we've camped a few times, the wife has seen that towing is a breeze for the new truck...Its a breeze for her, as she sits in the passenger seat and surfs the web on her phone! Seriously, the new TV is great tho, I went from white knuckles with wife's SUV...to forgetting the trailer is even behind us at times! I'll let you know how it turns out...now that the in-laws have been coming with us lately, I should be abl to charge them rental fees to off set the cost...lol!

Same with my new truck, LOVE it. No way DW is ready for an upgrade to the TT though. Her "drive" is easy like your DW's, but that's all about to change, she's going to towing school this weekend!

Good luck with that. Mine sits in the passenger seat "White Knuckled". She gets panic attacks when we tow.

Thanks! I'm going to need it! I don't think she's ready to actually tow yet, I'm just going to try to get her feet wet for the short drive to or from the storage yard. Only about 5 turns, no major highways, and no backing. Baby steps...

This trip involves a new variable that I'm not comfortable with yet. We're going to strap on our canoe. I haven't done this in years, so we'll see how it goes. I got the rigging and clamps for the rack yesterday, will get the rack some time this week. She swears she's going to need sedatives, she leaves claw marks in her hand-holds in the passenger seat as it is!

Well, it was not meant to be! They had two 355MBQS's on the lot, but the one with the darker color scheme my wife liked was SOLD...she did not like the lighter color scheme. We loved the floor plan and the dealer was more than willing to order us a new unit with the colors we wanted....but of 'course that would increase the price!! We left and are very happy with our current Jayco! Thank you for all that responded to this thread and the thread I posted about 5th wheel hitches.
