Should I choose fabric or leather/vinyl for my new Travel Trailer?

Hi All!!

I feel like cloth sofas/dinettes would be more "comfy", but that leather/vinyl might be more durable. What do you prefer in your RV?

We are looking at purchasing a Jayco Travel Trailer and I have the option of either one.

Thanks for your advice,

Erica

I have a mix of both in mine. If I had a choice I would stick with the cloth. It can be replaced. The faux leather does not wear as well as I thought. It still looks good but shows more than the cloth.

Just my 2c.

Warmer in the winter, doesn't stick to your body, and most likely cheaper to recover.

We have the cloth. Mom & Dad have the "leather". We prefer the cloth.

We are going to order the "canyon cloth" on a Whitehawk 28DSBH. We are gonna go with the cloth because we take 2 cats with us camping and they would mark up the leatherette way too easy with their claws.

We prefer the cloth as it looks more elegant and feels nice and soft to sit on. A faux leather (faux is French and stands for fake or false) settee looks to me like a booth in a diner, especially if it’s in a dark color. However, if you think you cannot keep a cloth sofa and settee spot free, a faux leather option might be more practical to wipe clean.

We have the leatherette due to having 2 dogs and a 13 year old, it's easier to keep clean, 'stuff' doesn't just soak into it like a sponge. Possible downside is it at least seems easier to 'pierce' if someone (pet or human) does something stupid.

I have cloth in the dinette but they can be flipped and are vinyl on the underside. I have the "leather" theater seats and cover them during warm weather with a cloth throw.

We have the leather as well and it makes me very nervous when sharp objects are around it. Was positive I'd made a mistake and should have gotten cloth instead until my 3 yr old spilled something on the cushion almost every meal. I can wipe them down and they are good as new. I do like the idea of a throw cover for times we aren't eating on the cushions.

We have cloth in the dinette, but I've yet to see many people do what we do. Maybe I just don't know enough people. Flip the bottom cushions over, and there's your easy to clean vinyl. We keep the bottom cushions flipped most of the time due to 3 young kids. If I had fabric up there, I'd have had to replace the dinette cushions after 6 months. Page 16 of my mod thread shows the cushions flipped.

As for the couch, can't win there. We both prefer leather or pleather for cleaning, but the cloth is kind of comfortable. The home we sold didn't have cloth anything. Just too hard to keep clean.

What a great thread!

I loved all the posts. Our 2016 Melbourne 24K has pleather on both sides of the cushions. I read online that a few years back manufacturers were using a cheap pleather from China that separates much quicker that today's pleather. Over the winter, our dinette seats developed a lot of rips. I am planning on recovering the dinette. I was looking into Marine vinyl as opposed to pleather or fabric as I assume it is easier to slide into the dinette on vinyl and to keep clean. Based on this thread I'm now thinking about making one side or vinyl and the other side material. I prefer the looks of material however, I do have a 8 yr. old grandson! Vinyl can be wiped down and they will have zippers so that I can remove them and washed. On the plus side, the cloth will feel more comfortable was we convert the dinette into a bed. I'm also going to change out my valances so that the cloth and the vinyl match as well. I found a nice looking pebbled vinyl in Armadillo Gray and Armadillo Tan. I requested samples of both colors from https://www.marinevinylfabric.com. This thread has been very helpful. I have been going back and forth between fabric vs vinyl and never thought about using both!
