Shower noise - please help!

So we do the whole "navy shower" thing but when we allow the water to flow it is quiet at first but then it "screams" like a banshee! What causes this and what can we do?

open the valve further?

Cut the water off Take the valves out and clean them good. lubricate all seals etc. with petroleum jelly. Look for any obstruction that may not let the valves work properly.

I agree with cleaning the valves, but would not use petroleum jelly for a lube as it can cause damage to the rubber seals. You can find "plumber's grease" at plumbing supply/ home improvement stores.
