They are used inside the trailer.

Hi Lee,

Any particular reason yours (in the pic) is on the side of the slide? We were instructed to use it on the top.

Mine install high on the sides as well. I have stickers on the sidewall locating where to install them.

That`s not mine, its a pic I borrowed from a vender. My slide lock also goes on top of the slide, just one. It is a small shallow sofa slide. And without the lock in place it will move out at the top if you push on it. So I suppose it would move slightly while traveling.

I found bars stowed away in the bedroom for my new Greyhawk 31SS. Dealer didn't even mention them or how to use.

The first slide I ever had was in a 2001 Fleetwood Prowler and there were two aluminum bars with rubber feet that you wedged in the top of the slide for travel. My current fiver did not come with any.

I may be a little anal retentive, but last year the party next to me at the CG tried to put their slide out and ripped out part of their sidewall. I said that's never going to happen to me. I went to an electrical supply store and bought 2 key switches, key removable in off position only, and installed them next to the slide out switches and wired them into the OUT side only. I painted the switches, transit bars, and keys different colors so I wouldn't mix them up. The keys hang on the transit bars when in use or in storage under the dinette seat. Now I have to do it to the new Seneca asap, and that will be one less problem to worry about.

Don't you have decals above the slide-out switches that mention the bars? Our 08 35GS has decals that talk about the bars as well as to level before opening the slide, that's how it came from the factory.

A question: Are slide "lock" bars something used by Jayco in all their models, towable or motorized? None in our WhiteHawk and no mention of them by the salesman when we purchased. The slide in our trailer is 30" deep, electric gear driven Lippert model.

I think it depends on which slide mechanism was used. On our SENECA we have "Power Gear" and as I stated we have decals by the slide switches remindind us to remove and reinstall the bars. If you have concerns I would 'E' mail JAYCO with your serial number, they usually respond in a couple days.

Slide Transit Bars

Our dealer told us only the motor homes have them know. I asked because our old designer 5th wheel had one and our white hawk does not. I'm glad they were a Paine in the butt.

We have always used ours, guess it just makes me feel a little safer.

2003 Kiwi 23B had one transit bar, mechanical slideout - dealer showed us at checkout.
2013 JayFlight 28BHS, has two transit bars, electrical slideout - dealer showed us during PDI.

My salesman didn't mention transit bars either, neither did the PDI. I found them later in the bedroom drawer. I used them, although the rear one is hard to get in place unless you have really skinny arms and hands. (31SS) I taped a warning notice over my slide out switch, reminding me to check that transit bars are removed before extending the slide. Does anyone know if there are any after market transit bars that are easier to install than those that come with the Jayco?

I figure if they were provided I might as well use them. I agree Tom, the back one is a pain to install.

IMO, anything that makes the slides more secure while moving is a good idea.

Ours did not come with them but we had a slide out gear box go out and I made some to use temporary out of 2 x 2's to get home.

When we got home I made 3 sets ( two for each slide) out of 1 inch PVC and crutch tips. I store them in the rig in case I ever need them.

I had a Kodiak 25QS previously and it came with 1 transit bar, that I would stick at the top of the slide-out...

On the freeway one day, this guy came up by me on the left lane and wave at the back that something was moving. I puller over, went around the RV found nothing, but when I got in I notice the bad had fallen off, and the top of my slide was tiping in and out while I was driving.

After that trip, went to Home Depot, bought a curtain rod and 2 chair foot pads and made myself a 2nd transit bar. From then on, I used both when travelling and when the travel trailer was in storage. I ensured the seal was fully compressed.

Now, I'll be picking up my 28BHBE in April, will check if there is one, but I can say that to start with the slide-on mechanism isn't the same at all...and on this one, when the room slides in, there's an inclination when it go fully in, seems a lot more solid than what I had on my previous TT

I've got a X213 on order w/ the HUGE king bed rear slide. I'll have to remember to ask about these bars to see if any are included with my unit.
