Slide Transit Bars
Sorry if this subject has already been discussed. When we did our walk through, the dealer told us that we did not need to install the transit bars on the slides. He said they are only for the delivery to the dealer.
Is that true? I beleive the manual states that you should install them.
What does everyone else do?

We also asked that same question...our old trailer had them. We were told they are no longer needed. Then i found one in the compartment above the couch...but the directions said to use it for a closet rod...go figure...

My trailer came with a slide lock and I use it when traveling. Not all slides require them but if yours does I would use it.

It'd be interesting to hear what Jayco's answer would be. It was reiterated to us in our PDI to make sure we use the bar for it's intended use. So, we have been using it as suggested (during transit for the slide)

I also use the travel lock on our g2 29bhs. It wasnt in the trailer on walk through so they sent someone to get one from the shop or parts.

We never received them, nor were they even discussed during our walk through.

My trailer (purchased used) did not come with one. I went to Menards and bought a Masterforce quick clamp/spreader unit. I trimmed the metal bar off so I could still close the cabinet door above the slide and simply use that. I attached a bead chain with a flourescent orange tag on it so that someone doesn't accidentally try to deploy the slide with the spreader in it.

One of the things we were looking for in a trailer was one that was still usable with the slide retracted. 1) We camp in state parks where the sites tend to be smaller. 2) We have managed to get spaces in crowded campgrounds because our old RV could fit where many could not. 3) Anything that can go wrong usually will at some point.
We bought our trailer used and the fellow who did the walk through said that he has seen a lot more damage done by people operating the slides with the bars in place than by not using them. And our slide is fairly small so it probably doesn't matter.
But its easy to see that the gasket seals better across the top of the slide when the bar is in place. If you get used to always installing after closing and removing before opening it is worthwhile. If you are forgetful of things like that, you should probably not use the bar.

We were told by the tech at PDI to use it on our up front small slide (basically a closet slide). So I do. According to the tech, it will make that particular slide seal better as it is small.

After going through all our literature, I did find a manufacturer cutsheet with usage instructions. I'm guessing that Jayco wants them installed. My fear is that I will forget when I go to extend the slides. Unfortunately, one of my slides is out of adjustment and isn't sealing when extended, so I will probably continue to use them.

I've never heard of such a thing. It wasn't even discussed (nor present) on my 2009 BHDS or my 2012 TSBH - and they came from 2 different dealerships.

Use one of those 3M removeable hook thingys right above your slide out switch. Then you hang a flourescent orange tag with the wording "Remove transit bar before deploying slide out" on it. Works like a charm. You can't touch the rocker switch without moving the tag aside. If you trash your slide out anyway then you're a lost cause!!

I think it varies greatly by trailer. That said, they guy I bought my trailer from said that he had no idea what the bar was for. However, there were clear stickers by the door and in the location the bar goes and say it is required.
Go figure - I use it, he didn't....

So, am I right in understanding that this is a bar that holds the slide in the "in" position while pulling the TT? Are they used on the outside underneath the camper? Can anyone post a picture of this? I honestly have never heard of such a thing.

Mine is a Slide Lock brand, looks like a clothes hanger you can put in a door frame. It essentially expands by twisting to put pressure between the inside wall and the backside of the slide frame (on the inside of the TT), while towing. To remove, it twists the other way to loosen it up.
Anybody else lose the ability to view avatars or the use the Quote button on this forum. These seem to have been missing for me since yesterday afternoon?
