I've spent a lot of years towing trailers, for pleasure as well as by profession. As with most things, there are trade offs. Single axle is lighter and cheaper but has a lower gvwr, dual axle is more stable but you have added weight, added cost and lower fuel economy due to scrubbing. As for backing up, the length of the trailer has much more to do with how it backs than the number of axles. the further the axle is from the tow vehicle, the easier it will back.
If your concern is blowouts, you may want to focus more on quality and rating of tires and less on number of axles/tires. Invest in the best, highest rated tire you can afford and give yourself a little peace of mind.
