Small Tear in Roof-Duct Tape Fine?

Got into some trees and got a small tear on my roof. Was going to use some duct tape to prevent it from getting worse unless there is something better you all recommend?

My biggest concern about duct tape, is it will leave a nasty residue, it will dry out quickly in the sun, and shred within a month or two.

I used electrical tape for a week. It stuck nicely, removed easily, but it too can leave a nasty residue if left on way to long.

I ordered a short 4" wide roll of Eternabond, to fix my tear. I keep about 5' in my tool box, just for that situation.

Long term you want a permanent fix, like Eternabond.

Good luck

Duct tape won't last. Use Eternabond tape closely following the cleaning and application instructions.

Eternabond or Dicor tape. These products are made for RV roof systems.

You can get a small (5') length of eternabond 4 inch tape online (either ebay or amazon - can't remember which).

Good idea to keep some in the trailer basement.

What about Gaffer tape? Doesn’t rot in the sun and no residue like duct tape

RE Gaffers tape -- I am a retired stagehand and have used many rolls. gaffers tape is a temporary use tape. It primarily is used to hold rubber floor rolls for ballet, etc. on stage. It is not meant for long term use.

After a few weeks the bond gets less and the tape will start to leave a residue.

If it is all you can get vs. Eteanabond use it as a temporary patch till the Etearnabond gets there. Much better than duct tape or other tapes for removal but just not permanent or perfectly clean. But you still will need to make absolutely sure the area is clean before using the Eteanabond.

By the way, I called the company that makes Etearnabond and it has a shelf life of about two years.

Good to know. We used Gaffer Tape to repair a cracked awning end cap a year ago and holding strong so far. Don’t even
Notice the black tape on black plastic.

Eternabond. Its made specifically for this. Why risk a $20-30,000 investment with a $2 roll of duct tape when a $5 roll of Eternabond is easily attainable?
