As RoyBraddy said, stay at the National Park. I too like Elkmont CG.
I've only stayed there about 20 times, but it hasn't been bad yet.

It used to be first come. My last trip was a couple of years ago during the eclipse. I learned they now take reservations and had to leave after a few days because they were full for the ecliplse.

When going to Pigeon Forge for shopping or eating (Krispy Kreme Donuts), take the bypass around Gatlinburg. If going to Gatlinburg, take the shuttle from the park. Depending on the time of year, traffic and parking in Gatlinburg are not so good.

When I moved into town during the eclipse, I stayed at Camp Rivers Landing. A little tight on space, but well hosted, well maintained. Plug was bad in electric service, they fixed in within 30 minutes.

Like Grumpy, I've also stayed at River Plantation. Another nice place.

By the way.... don't plan on staying overnight in a parking lot in Pigeon Forge. Depending on what officers are working, you may get rousted (I didn't notice the signs).

We enjoying to the Pigeon Forge Area and Smoky Mountains. Our favorite place to stay is River Plantation RV Resort. It is located at 1004 Parkway, Sevierville, TN which is convenient to the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg areas. It is rated highly by Google users, Good Sams and Trip Advisor. We like the easy access with our 41 ft 5th Wheel.

Townsend. There’s a park with sites right on the river/creek. Very beautiful.

Dumplin Valley Farm RV park in Kodak. A little out of the way of the business - casual, friendly... one of our favorites in the past few years.

Picture in my registry.

Pine Mountain RV Park in Pigeon Forge is awesome place to stay. It’s at stop light #6 . Anchors Down RV Park is awesome. The only thing is about a 30 minute drive from Pigeon Forge. There is a new one that’s just opened this year it’s the Ridge.
