So the Journey Begins

We have been planning this trip for about a year and half. We are headed to Niagra Falls from AZ. Then we are going all the way back to Mount Rushmore before heading home. We are taking a month to do it with lots of stops in between. We just picked up our 2018 Jayco Jay Flight 31QBDS last October. So many things going through my head and trying to prepare for everything that could happen.. Lol Its the Boy Scout in me that tends to take over. praying all goes well and we can make some awesome family memories. Let the journey begin.

Bring passports if you want to cross over to the Canadian side for a different view. It’s certainly not necessary but something to think about if you’re traveling that far. Have a great trip.

Big trips can be exciting. We have been on two so far. One of 7900 miles, and the other of 8900 miles.

The first one was from Virginia to California and return, covering 18 states soon after I had retired. The second one was from Virginia to ID, at it futhest, with an unfortunate side trip to FL. This one covered 24 states.

We had a blast, as I'm sure you will. The first trip was completely uneventful, while the second largely was, except for two trailer flat tires (which fortunately were discovered while we were parked), and a deer running into the trailer while on I-90 east of Bozeman, MT.

Enjoy your big adventure.

Don't know your time frame but with us, we travel 5hrs and then stop for supper and a cocktail. Long trips can wear you down and life is to be enjoyed not endured. May the road rise up to greet you and wind always be at your back...

Just be aware that traffic at Niagara Falls on both sides of the river is brutal. Not much parking for RV's nor towed trailers anywhere near the falls. If you plan to cross the border be sure to review what you can and cannot bring into Canada.

As you pass by Erie, PA there is the tall ship Brig Niagara from the battle of Lake Erie. It does sail so check their website for the schedule if you are interested in a tour.

If you are a fan of Chicken Wings, look up the "Anchor Bar" in Buffalo, where Buffalo wings originated. Beware of suicide sauce, get it on the side if you want to try it.

That's pretty much what we are planning. Only have 1 or 2 days of long driving.

Just as I got to the shelter it went over the top of us. Luckily it didn't touch down where we were at. My youngest daughter didn't like it at all. I can't blame her. We are all safe and moved on. Looking forward to the rest of the trip.

Safe travels! Every time I've crossed into Canada, they would ask if we were carrying any "roots or spirits". In US words, that's any kind of food that grows underground, like onions, carrots, etc., and liquor. Also, no weapons!!!
Haven't been over since 9-11, so restrictions probably have changed a bit.

Congrats on your new TT and the ability to make the trip. I am still a few years out in saving up enough time at work to make the grand tour as I call it. I will say two Youtuber's that have watched really are helping me plan my trip first is Long Long Honeymoon They just released a video this past week about first timer's taking a long trip. well worth watching and subscribing to. The second is Slim PotatoHead, He is a great story teller and is really good in finding the park less traveled. Both produce a great video and well worth watching and subscribing to.

Safe Travels Happy Camping

Have a great trip! We did a cross country for three months last year covering 23 states and had a fantastic time. Several good points already mentioned, but worth repeating. Suggest driving only 4-5 hours and then unhook, check out local cuisine and rest up for the next day's adventure. So glad I put a 55 gal fuel tank on our diesel truck so we could unhook before refueling. Suggest making CG reservations ahead of time, especially in the more popular stops. The CGs fill up quickly in the summertime especially. Be sure to use your arrival and departure checklist. Will help reduce problems and save time. Also, suggest using a EMS surge protector for full protection in hooking up at CG. Some pedestals are in need of some TLC. Enjoy your time!

If you camp at the state park near Niagara Falls (think it's called Four Mile), you can park for free at the state park at Niagara Falls.

FYI. Entry into Canada: Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry both proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship. January 2019

Have a great trip. Hope it’s clear at Rushmore. It was fogged in and snowing when we were there.(5/21/19).

Call ahead if you plan to stay at Walmart. Not all of them allow overnight parking. Ours used to, but now the city doesn't allow it.

The view from the Canadian side is awesome! If you can cross the border both day and night.
