Sold the Jayco

Well after 7 solid years with the 28BHS we wanted a new floorplan with no bunks and more living space. Back in October we were camping with some friends who had just purchased a new Coachmen Catalina TT. Since I knew the owner l I looked that unit over real good from stem to stern and liked what I saw as far as initial quality fit/finish and features.

Fast forward a few weeks and I check out the dealers inventory and see the Floorplan we want on their lot equipped the way we want. The DW is intrigued so we go look at it. We decide its a keeper so after some not too intense negotiation We seal the deal. Got around 30% off actual MSRP and a fair trade price for my unit from a dealer reasonably close to home. Less then a week later I go do the walk through. Only issue is the table and chairs are marred up so they switched them out with another unit.

They switched out my Reese DC hitch from the Jayco to the new one while I finished up the paper work and they did a good job on that. Towed it home and it towed well behind the 13 yr old 2500. Over Thanksgiving we did a 4 nighter to try everything out and everything worked as it should. My thorough investigation revealed the intake hose to the water pump was kinked so I rerouted that. Did some touching up of the Dicor as well on the roof. Other then the usual sawdust and shavings everything else was good to go.

Now some may ask why not Jayco. Well no dealers anywhere close had anything we wanted, and we did not want to order sight unseen or travel a long distance like we did with our Jayco. Our Jayco served us well and I woukd have bought another one if the opportunity was there. But we got exactly what we wanted, at a fair price, reasonably close, had been on the lot less then two months, with no wait time.

The unit we purchased is a 2017 Coachmen Catalina 283 RKS legacy edition conventional stick and tin build. Yes I know, thats a Forest River product. But it now seems to be a crapshoot with any mass manufacturer of RVs.

As for JOF I will remain here on the site team as I feel there is no other RV forum like this anywhere on the net and I have many friends here.

It certainly "pays" to have experience with and knowledge of RVs when buying.
We had two different motorhomes from another brand for many years and just over a year ago bought our first Jayco.
It had what we wanted at the time and continues to meet our needs.

Enjoy your new RV!

Yeah all we had to do was camp next to a new one to catch the new camper bug.

I am shocked! Crabman buys a Brand X RV!!! What next, Trump being elected president???

Oh, wait! Darn it!

Just kidding! If I were to be in the same position, I might do the same as you. Congratulations on the new rig. With over 14,000 posts, I am happy you are staying at, as you stated, the best Owner forum around!

First of all, congrats on the new rig. We went to the Indy RV Show last week and the unit I was most impressed with was a Keystone Outback. They had 2-3 triple slide out units there and the gel-coat was incredible, no fibers whatsoever. Had this windshield up front that you could see out but not in and most impressive was a 7 pt automatic leveling system on a travel trailer. Fit and trim was nice. If it came with a 10 gallon water heater and 80 gallons of fresh water, which we currently have, I'd probably would've bought it. Lot's of cool new stuff out there.

A couple of the specs I liked on this trailer beyond the floorplan and candy was a CCC of over 3,000 lbs (6475 dry 9500 GVWR) and 70 Gal grey capacity compared to 32 in the BH.

Congratulations on the Catalina! Good to hear you're sticking around......besides, you'd have to start over at ANOTHER forum, and it would take a while to amass over 14000 posts! (chuckle).

I thought I read a while back that you upgraded the tires on your Jayco to Maxxis. Did they allow you to switch 'em out?

I'm always looking for my next camper. It may be a Jayco, but I have very low brand loyalty (other than for Ford for some reason).

Glad you are sticking around as you are one of many reasons this site is so awesome. Do we have a forum section for non-jayco discussions? I've seen a lot of interest in discussing non-Jayco products, and am looking forward to hearing about your experiences with your new camper. Congrats on the new rig.

At the moment only for Starcraft but we could easily start a new thread for members with SOB.
