squirrel
Hi, we have our camper sitting out on a concrete slab. Squirrels ate through our propane hose several years ago. We put a rubber piece over it and it worked until this summer. They have now eaten through the shorter hose and also the longer one underneath. Does anyone have any idea what we could put over the hoses to keep them from chewing? Thanks.

This may not be the cheapest solution but some braided stainless steel hose covers from the automotive aftermarket may work http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-8090.../dp/B000BWCG8Q
In the telephone industry, fiber optic lines are commonly cut by three things: people digging, train derailments and animals (above and below ground) chewing on lines.

Sister had that problem with her propane grill. They found a wire at the store that looks like a compression spring and slipped it over the hose while replacing it. She never had a problem with it since. I would contact a Propane shop that makes custom hoses, and recertifies LP tanks. They can make you a new hose of any length and recommend a solution.

In some states, red squirrels are classed as vermin, while gray squirrels are classed as game animals. Shooting gray squirrels out of season and without a hunting license can get a person fined.

Here in Virginia, squirrels are game animals. However, if they are caught in the act of destroying my property, they are properly & abruptly taken care of. PC police be damned.

In NY, red squirrels can be taken at any time. Regular squirrels are 6 a day from sept 1st to Feb 28.. My cat hates red squirrels.

Reds are nothing but rats with bushy tails. They will chew into siding like rats to nest. We don't have any reds where I live, but we have a lot of grays. They stay away from the house.
I've parked RVs in my driveway for 24 years with no problems, but last year something chewed into a propane hose. I figured the regulator was the problem. I was going on a 2 week vacation the nest day, so I took the trailer to the dealer to replace the regulator. After about and hour we finally found the hole in the hose. The hose in my 2007 Eagle TT hung down pretty low, so it would be easy for animals to reach. I have no idea what chewed it. We replaced it with a shorter hose that ran close to the frame.
The Eagle only had a short section of hose and then the rest was metal pipe. My new White Hawk is all rubber hose, like a total of over 30 feet. I wonder what the longest 16 ft section would cost to replace. The local propane distributor would make one to any length if necessary.

we had new hoses made at local propane dealer and my husband wrapped them with wire mesh. Hopefully, this will work. Don't know why they like the propane smell as our acorns are starting to fall. Hate to think of another MN winter coming. Thanks to all who replied.

My squirrels (fox squirrels) weigh a couple of pounds... plenty of meat for a meal. Greys are a little smaller, and I guess the reds most people think of are pretty small. Never seen one, that I remember.
A couple of fun facts about fox squirrels- they are usually red in color, but there's a black color phase. The city of Marysville, KS has a high percentage of the black phase, and is known as Black Squirrel City. I shot and ate a couple up blacks in Edwardsville when I was a kid, a couple hundred miles from Marysville. Also, if grey squirrels invade fox squirrel territory, the fox squirrels have been known to de-nut their competition to prevent successful breeding. Ouch!

Stoeger pellet gun works great. Fox squirrels have free pass! Gray squirrels don't!
