LIKE Grumpy states below... IF Verizon or ATT or T-mo can get a signal more than a mile from the outskirts of town (we all know that they don't) - then there would be no reason for Starlink to exist. But the reality is that there are lots of big mountains between 'us and the big cell companies that make Starlink a viable option.
""IF"" they get a signal is the keyword. There are no places that their Home Internet works, that their mobile phones do not work... which is a large portion of the Western United States.

Note: I just checked RACE web site for my address. 1GiG will go up to $75/month after 6 month trial. No cap,no rate limit. Not Bad.

To anyone that believes Elon is 'slacking' in Satellite launches.
'On Thursday, May 4 at 3:31 a.m. ET, Falcon 9 launched 56 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida'. These are the older Version 1 but he is moving along to fulfill he plan to cover the Earth with Low Earth Orbit Satellites.
I too would not mind seeing any competition as it helps all parties, but he is certainly so much further ahead. I am sitting typing this thru Starlink in a Location that has no other access & do not mind the cost as it affords me access for Personal, Travel knowledge, Safety, & many reasons.

I'm with you. Last couple years my nights camping is down, to about 60 nights/year. That is family with the tt, and scouts.
When we bought this tt, it came with a TV, used it and everything else on the first trip (making sure everything works). Got home and removed the TV.
Post covid, DW and I work from home a lot. Could work from camp, but we have not tried it yet. Big issue for us, is internet connectivity. Places we go, do not provide internet, and cell coverage is poor at best.
We were thinking about Starlink but with the big price increase, not sure. Just got fiber at home and our home price dropped to $30/mth, so it is hard to justify Starlink at home.
Each of use to our own, camp/glamp the way we want.

Well,, $150 a month for rock solid decent internet connections while camping anywhere in this country (for most part) is pretty decent.. Especially when you consider, a lot of us either work when we travel and or use the Internet to make a decent income.. Also,, i'm not selfish with my Starlink either.. Many, many times, I have shared my internet connections to neighboring campers and not one time did i suffer from data interruptions doing so..

I would gladly pay $150 a month for Starlink service, but it seems most of the mid-Atlantic states are not in their service area.

I am sure you all will correct me, as I know little about Elon's baby. We live in Eastern NC, in the sticks, as we like to say.We are about 15 miles from New Bern, and our internet sucks to put it mildly. We have DSL and 30megabites max on a good day. Last night we went to a church fundraiser with another couple, and she told us she will be signing up for the service. Per the email she says she got, and will forward to me today, she can have the mobile version now for about $100 or so a month. The home based one she has to go on a waiting list. Does this make sense?

Home base service is now $120 month and Portability $150 month. You can toggle between home base and portability as needed. I’ve gotten anywhere from 200-500gb. Seems faster the further north I travel. Two years and not one outage experienced. There was a waiting period for me, 3 months and $500 equipment fee. The portability version allows you to use Starlink wherever you travel to. They have a Mobile version $200/ On-The-Go that allow you to use internet as you travel, good for boating etc… hope that helps.

Thanks, she says hers will be around $125 a month. We will see. They install it next Wednesday. My wife wants it as our internet sucks in a big way.

Opps, i quoted GB but i meant MB in speed. The install is EZ.. Lay the dish in an open area to the sky turn it on and the router does the rest. Takes about 5 mins to find it's satellite's and align to them.. It is pricey but considering you can stream with no interruptions it's not bad. Wife loves it because she can stream all her Netflix and various other video programs she subscribes to. We can also VPN into our work (both at the same time) with no issues..

I am currently on the Starlink waitlist. I'm in Southern Illinois and have been waiting for 6 months. After reading this thread I went to the Starlink site and it appears the portability option on the Residential Plan is gone for new customers (me).
I currently have Viasat at home, it is slow and expensive with sucky data limits/throttling. Starlink was going to alleviate those issues as well as provide me portability.
So now I am wondering if I should swap from the Residential Plan to the Roam plan. Roam has replaced the portability option. You get one or the other, but the Roam is a bit pricier.
What kind of speeds do people get on the RV/Roam service? I might be better off getting the Roam plan if the service is better. I could get better speeds at home as well as being able to take it on the road in RV.

i live in the Mojave Desert Calif and they briefly took Poartoabiltyiy away. I think they weigh the amount of customers in a given area when they offer Portability. I dont have any experience with the Roam service but would like to hear from those that have it

My friend here in eastern NC said she could get the portable solution right now, and a waiting list for the permanent install.

In the past you could get the RV Plan or the Residential Plan. If you had the Residential Plan, you could turn the Portability option on and off when you wanted, and you paid for a full month of portability each time you turned it on and for each additional month you had it on. (There are other more expensive plans for business, etc.)
This is no longer the case as I understand it from reading information on the Starlink website.
You can either get the Roam Plan, previously called the RV Plan, or you can get the Residential Plan. Portability in no longer available for new Residential customers. Portability is also going away for the existing customers.
Again, what we previously knew as the RV Plan has now become the Roam Plan. Portability was only associated with the Residential Plan and was not a Plan in and of itself.

Maybe- I have residential and can move for short periods and keep residential. I have to change the address back and forth but like now when we are at the summer location for four months I simply changed the service address and Starlink said change it back when we move back. I had researched all of this with Starlink prior.
I also did not get hit with the price increase a few months ago like most others. My residential stayed at $110.
At some point they may get this all worked out but until then I am not moving to Roam.

Portability is the same as Mobile, they just renamed it. You can toggle between mobile and home base as needed but they prorate over the 30 day cycle. In other words, if you turn on mobile for a 10 day period, you pay for the 30 day billing cycle. I tried what CAG does by changing address and I got an email from them stating I could only change address locations once within a 30 day period. CAG is doing it within a few months so it will works in his case. The Mobile is now $150 month and home base is $120.
