Started second ac install
I've been planning to install a 2nd AC unit in my 2012 31.5FBHS. I wanted to fish the wire from the vent in the bunk room to the underside of the camper. I told myself, If I can't get that much done, I may as well not order the unit. I remove the inside vent cover and within two hours I was able to fish a length of 12-2 wG from the vent to the front, then down inside the front cap then back under the underside and out through the propane compartment. It was easier (if easier is a word) than I expected. Next I plan to get a small breaker box to install in that compartment, then attach supply cable I will plug into the 20amp supply at the pedistal, plus order the 13,500 Coleman MachIII unit. Sorry, I didn't think to take pics.
So far so good

Does that wire have the bare copper wire for a safety ground? I always think in terms of marine wire which has three conductors for 115VAC.

When you have 2 AC units, don't that require a 50 amp service ?

He is going to run two cords. One being the normal 30 amp cord, and then a second cord to the 20 amp plug at the power box.

My question would be, if the trailer originally wasn't prep'd for a 2nd Air Conditioner then he's going to have some reinforcement and framing to do in the ceiling to support the weight. Especially going down the road bouncing.
Good luck,

Bill, I'm waiting on a response from Jayco regarding the necessity of reinforcement for the ceiling to handle the extra weight. I hope to be getting an email soon. But, either way, it is getting a 2nd ac.
Tackle, I do plan to run an extra cable to power the 2nd ac seperate from the 5'er.
I will be doing updates as the project progresses

On our TT, I contacted Jayco and they stated that we didn't need reinforcement, and they sent a schematic. They said all 3 vents were constructed the same.

They told me the same thing, but also mentioned that installing a second ac there would void my warranty in that area.

Just something to think about but been to a couple CG's that only had the 30 and 50A svc avail at the box. Any 20A svc was to be ran off the TT. Would be a good idea to call ahead to verify the avail svc at the site just to be on the safe side.

2ND AC INSTALL UPDATE: I ordered the Coleman Mach III last evening.
exjay1---I have given that thought. If we run into that, I've got a 50am adapter that plugs into the 50amp on the ped then splits into two 20amp household plugs.
If there is no 50 or 20 amp plug on the ped, we will just do what we do now, no worse off.

The AC unit arrived today. Ordered on the 24th and got it today. That is fast. Now the fun begins. I will take photos to post.
Wish me luck
