Stove exhaust fan

We just picked up our 2020 jayco eagle 321rsts. Taking it out next week for the shakedown cruise. As with any new RV there are quirks with a design you need to figure out. Not sure how you may have worked with this one. Any response would be appreciated. The outside vent for the stove exhaust fan is up so high on the slide that you cannot reach it to snap open or snap close by standing just on the ground. I am thinking I will need to carry a step stool to reach it. If this what you have, What do you do to open and close the vent?

I think they all are too high. We carry a three step ladder for that issue and other purposes.

We have a single step fold up stool. I am fairly tall so it works for me.

I use the handle on our broom. It has a little lip on the broom that helps me flip the locks on the vent cover.
It works also to close and latch it closed.

Stool. They come in handy for all sorts of things that would drive you crazy if you didn't have one with you.

I wish ours had a vent to outside...as is now, the fan just blows everything back in the kitchen out the top of the range hood - looking for a way to add a vent, but not much space on the kitchen slide for that due to the window
in the slide....

Would use a small step ladder or mount a rod to the inside of the vent to where you can push open and pull closed from the inside...

I tried that with the previous RV and broke the latch. I ended up replacing he the entire outside vent. I don’t recommend that solution. A step stool is cheaper.

You must have an exterior exhaust vent. My North Point had one. Anyone else with a recent North Point that doesn't have an exhaust vent?!?!

My 2019 Eagle did not have an outside exhaust vent. I called Jayco and explained to them that I saw other 2019 FW with the vent. Jayco explained to me that it was not on the build sheet so they could not do anything. BS. I added the vent myself. Around last October I received a safety recall letter From Jayco stating some units built did not have the vent and they have had Carbon monoxide issues in the campers without the vent. Oh yes they refused reimburse me for the cost of the vent.

They would have received a copy of the complaint to the BBB and any other organization I could have thought to send it to. That is BS. Interestingly I have found that complaints on Yelp get immediate responses from RV dealers, doctor’s offices, and a multitude of others. There is no excuse for bad service.

I got tired of it flapping everytime we had high winds... I stuffed a chunk of can coozie in the opening and it stays wide open all the time.

I bring a 5 gallon bucket that has a lid. Both can be gotten at home depot or lowes. Upside down for use as a stool, and right side up with the lid for shoes at night.

Like yours, on our 30.5CKTS, our vent for the vent-a-hood is up high on a big slide-out! We bought a 3 step aluminum ladder at WM that is very lightweight and so sturdy (I was shocked they carried something made this well!). Works perfectly and fits easily in our front pass-through. I use it for a lot of chores around the campsite. There are two tabs at the bottom of the vent cover that you push and the “vent flap” hangs loose so it opens when the vent is running

I heard one guy say his wife just twitches her nose to open and close the stove fan vent.

I may tell her what he said!

We have the same camper (which has served us well for 20k miles), and keep a collapsible plastic stool in the left compartment for just that purpose. No biggie!

321 exhaust fan operation

If you use broom stick, you can press lightly upward on the two latches, then the flap is open.
Put broom stick between the vent and the flap at the latches, press against each end of flap you will hear a click when it latches.
