Sugar Ants - Not Fire Ants

Anyone found a permanent way to gid rid of these pest?
The RV park we leave our unit at has them and we have tried baits, sprays, and granules. They go away for a day or two and then they're back. We keep the inside very clean and don't leave food and drinks sitting around. I have even treated the entire lawn area around the unit with ant killer and sprayed around any point that touches the ground I.E. jacks, hoses etc. We are not the only ones with the problem, several friends around us have them too.

Thanks

For our home, we have had periodic bug's finding their way into the house (built on a concrete radiant pad), and spraying 2x/year with Ortho Home Defense works well for us.

Terro-PCO bait traps work amazing for those ants. We get them every fall around my house, put traps out for a week and the colony is dessimated.

Many folks have had good results using a product called Terro. You might want to read through these threads and make your own evaluation. Terro is usually easy to find. It commonly comes in either bait trays or a liquid form. When you use it, it will seem like it's not working because you will see an increase in ant activity. This happens because the ants become attracted to the Terro. However, after a few days, there will be a noticeable decrease in the number of ants. Besides using Terro, there are other suggestions, hints and advice for eliminating and/or preventing ants in these threads.

Advion ant gel. Syngenta makes it. Amazon sells a 4 pack for 25$. It is a restricted use product so I'm not sure how they're selling it. Just put small pea sized blobs of it where the ants are active. Just don't spray anything else in the area. Those cans of raid and home defense have very little residual effect. They're more of a contact killer. The ants you're seeing walking around are less than 2% of the colony. Killing a handful with a spray won't solve your problem. Use the bait, leave the ants alone. Let them pile up on it and bring it back home. Most of my customers get results in 1-3 days. I usually use 1 full tube (1.05 oz) for a regular sized kitchen.

Another word of advice for everyone, stop buying those hard plastic ant bait discs. I never once have seen them actually used by ants. I cut them open whenever I see them and the bait is never touched. I usually fill them with the gel just to get more coverage.

x2 on the Terro traps and liquid bait. You can also make your own with boric acid and sugar water (plenty of recipes on the internet) but I find it easier to buy a bottle of Terro.

Don't know whether it works or not, and would require some "maintenance," but I have heard that cups of water around entrance points deter ants. You could maybe use one of those trays meant for under a flower pot, so it'd be big enough to put a block in the center to keep the stab jacks out of the water. ???

Last weekend we were camped in S. Ga and were invaded by sugar ants. I declared war since they ate my KK crullers ,a fresh Apple pie and our dry cereal.

We left the Borax power at home but had some TERRO on hand. Put it out in a number of locations inside and in the storage. We got most of them but still see one or two stragglers. Still treating with Terro and hoping they are all gone by the next trip in a few weeks.

I know we had an ant issue one year, and thought every thing was clean. Come to find out there was a few crumbs we had missed under the stove top. Cleaned it out, again, this time getting everything and have not had an issue since. This was right after we had bought our current trailer.

So maybe something had been missed???
