Summer Travel

Just a suggestion to make sure you have reservations, especially in "tourist" areas. KOA reports reservations are up 23% this year, unprecedented increase. Here in the Black Hills so far we are 40% ahead of last year. It appears it's going to be a very active summer season. Sadly we have had to turn folks away who did not have a reservation.

Plan ahead and enjoy your summer !

We are leaving in 2 weeks on a 30 day trip and have all the sites pre booked. I had started booking back in Feb and even then there were some places that only had 3 sites available.

When making multi day runs between way points, we overnite at Walmarts. Saves time with finding the CG, saves time with set up, and of course saves $$'s. For sure would recommend reservations at destinations or you'll be facing a flat spot in an over flow area it you can even find that. Unfortunately camping has exploded over the last decade and once schools are out for the summer its at its worst.

Regardless of the above it is probably too late to get reservations for this summer at popular tourist areas. Your best bet in finding an open site is to avoid showing up on Fri or Sat.. Most sites open on Sunday when folks head home so showing up late am on Sun or early Monday gives you the best shot at a first come non reservable site. Some CG's keep a few sites that are not reservable.
