Except it was obviously a used rig....Look at the rebuilt floor.

I hope this doesn't turn in to another one of those towing threads that happen so frequently around here. However, this is another great reminder of how quickly bad things can happen. Glad that nobody was hurt.

Lacking of knowledge, improper equipped and speed are factors to this.

That's a weird looking floor. Dimensional lumber with multiple pcs of metal strapping it all together. Would have been pretty heavy and beyond the OE weight which they would have gone by for TV (don't know what a GC can tow though).

Looks like someone pressure washed the roof too.

"...the trailer has pressure treated 2x6 boards underneath."

Wow! That thing was grossly overweight. I'm not a fan of the courts but I think I would be talking to someone about pursing the seller for damages - this should have been disclosed. That thing would have weight at least 50%, probably more, than what the paperwork states. Guess it's a lesson to everyone to always check the underside for signs that things aren't right.

As far as this being another towing thread, there is always the chance, but I think considering the circumstances that the new owner didn't know this thing was going to be over weight, and probably disproportionally weighted, it's tough to blame them. Especially since the trooper changed her mind about issuing a ticket for excessive/unsafe speed.

I can’t be certain, but almost looks like there is no WDH brackets on the trailer which would also mean no sway control.

I only posted because it reads like an under informed buyer, possible newby, heading home without even the knowledge of how to correct the sway once it started.
I wonder if they had even insured it yet.
Lucky that the trailer was the only thing killed.

Awful! The floor looks to be made up of odd sized widths. Sad, but this underscores, “buyer beware”. Sure hope they had insured it or hadn’t paid yet.

There was a ball on the side which would indicate that the trailer could accommodate a sway control bar just not sure if one was used. I have towed using a Grand Cherokee but only a pop up. Not sure I would have attempted this even if it did weigh more than it should have.

If we keep getting accidents like these, There will be all kinds of regulations coming to the RV industry.

The dealer may have had no idea the floor had been redone the way it was. If customer told me new floor, I sure wouldn't of been thinking of that "new floor"!

Sure glad no one was hurt.

My dealership (Campingworld of Denver) was very anal about making sure my vehicle would handle the trailer before they let me leave. I had to give them the VIN so they could check the factory specs. If the vehicle wasn’t rated to haul my trailer they said they couldn’t let me tow it off the lot and would have to deliver it to me (for a fee). Luckily everything checked out but I was surprised they even checked. (Actually not luckily. My alternator went out on the way home and I ended up getting towed home anyway)

As stated before, many factors:

(1) Lack of knowledge of driver.
(2) Overweight trailer.
(3) Excess speed for the load.
(4) Not enough tow vehicle for the load?

I own a Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 diesel to haul a 34 foot 5th wheel
trailer, the dealer said Oh yes a 2500 is plenty of truck for that
load.

I've been towing RV's, cars on trailer and freight for many years.
I like stability and the ability to stop my load.

A lot better to have too much truck than too little!
