Terrain Recall/TSB ongoing nightmare
Hello,
We bought a Terrain in OCT-23 and took it on a 10 day trip getting back at the beginning of NOV-23. It was a great trip and we had lots of getting things sorted out ... mostly on our end. We did notice that there was a bunch of relay switching in the unit and called for support but were told it was normal.
In late NOV-23 we received a Technical Service Bulletin and were instructed to take it to a dealer to fix some issues with the battery system. Then, in DEC-23, before we were able to get it into the dealer for repair we received another TSB for another but different battery system issue and it said the same - get it to a dealer for repair.
We were able to get an appointment in FEB-24 to get these TSB's addressed and also deal with some quality issues (fasteners pulling through trim, missing light lens, bed binding when raised and lowered) - which I did not think were a big deal, just minor fixes.
The vehicle sat at the dealer for over 5 weeks while Jayco and the dealer squabbled over the little fixes and figuring out what to do with the TSBs. I finally told the dealer we needed the vehicle so finish up the TBS and just don't worry about the quality issues. I went and got the vehicle and brought it home. I plugged it into the shore power and noticed a fault in the battery system that said something to the effect of "cell imbalance". I took a video and sent it to Jayco Customer Service. Within 10 minutes they called and said unplug and fully disconnect the battery system. They said to get it back to the dealer.
So, we canceled our trip (cancellation #1) and called the dealer. They got us an appointment to drop off a week later. The vehicle sat there for about 2 weeks before they looked at it. The Jayco Customer Service folks told the dealer to call them when they started looking at the vehicle. While all this was happening we received a notice in the male of a Vehicle Recall due to battery cell imbalance that could cause a fire. Sure enough our battery was on the recall list. So the dealer told us that we have to wait for a solution from the battery vendor. He said it was likely to be a while and Jayco Customer Support said that the battery vendors "expects a solution by the end of the 2nd quarter). So, we cancelled our 2nd trip to the eclipse (cancellation #2).
We are now to the point where it is unclear when a fix will be actually available for installation (they are still claiming a solution identified by end of Q2 but no commitment on parts and repair time). At this point we had a big pacific NW trip planned for mid JUN-24 that there is no way to make (cancellation #3).
We have had the unit for just over 6 months. It has spent over 4 months at the service center waiting for a repair and we have been forced to cancel 3 trips. It is not clear if we are going to be able to find time for other trips this summer OR if we will even have a vehicle.
I am so frustrated I really don't have any ideas on what I should do. The Jayco Customer Service people are very nice and professional but they really don't have any information. The dealer is meh - not sure if they really care other than fix it when they Jayco agrees to pay them. The battery company sounds like a bunch of jokers.
I am open to suggestions. The Recall Notice said I could call the National Highway Safety Administrator - that does not sound that helpful. I am really at my wits end. We paid a lot of money and can't use this thing. I am starting to really regret buying this vehicle.
Suggestions?
B/R - Joe.
