Texas Registration
I just wanted to pass this along, but I received my registration renewal for my Jayco last month and the DW went on line and paid the renewal. I never took the 5er to have the $7 "safety inspection" completed and I received the new registration in the mail yesterday! I don't know if it's mess up and I got lucky or if this is new for TX trailer registrations? Anyone else in TX have this happen?

Could it be temporary because of COVID?

Possible, but I still have to bring my truck in to have the inspection completed on it. I couldn't renew it without the inspection like I dd the 5er.

I just got mine yesterday. I am going to try to renew online without inspecting it. Stay tuned.

Well no such luck. TxDMV.gov sez I must inspect first. Oh Well.

Could it vary by County?

That’s probably what happened. I renew at a local HEB and they always check the inspection for car, truck and TT.
While I don’t really complain I find it odd that the 5th inspection is only the lights ( brake, running).

My company truck is registered out of texas. I got a brand new truck back in September with temp registration for that month, another for October, another for November and dont even have a valid one for this month. Prolly wont get one either because I work 3 days this week and that's it for the month. And I'd bet I wont have one for January either. No license plate on it either because DMV is so far behind so they keep giving out the temp's and now they can't even do that. So, yes, I've been driving on temp tags for 3 months, and absolutely nothing for this month.
Thanks COVID.

One thing they are not telling you about getting the truck inspected before registration is that none of the agencies are writing tickets for expired registration/inspection until April due to covid.

Now when I say none, this will vary be area but this is in the DFW area.

Yes...you are correct. But they are still using that violation as PC for a stop.

The PoPo only has to have "suspicion " your RV has expired inspection now that we no longer get a visible sticker to put on the RV
The most wasted/stupid $14 ( 7 for shop & 7 for state) ever spent on RV ownership is our required inspection. There is only ONE place within 30 miles radius of me that can do a RV inspection because it must be done inside a building except for the panic stop which is another insane part of the inspection .
My tags expire in Jan so I have to go to the farm. Get RV ready to travel. Hook on & drive to town 12 miles then back to farm & set back up. I usually make this trip part of camping trip but we are remodeling our house right now .

If the Officer doing the stop is up to speed on correct Drivers License probably will get several with big heavy RV's without a Class A non-CDL .
One thing leads to another.

I hope Indiana never does anything like that, but then again, it'll cost me $300 this year to plate my 9 year old camper.

What is your GVWR on your trailer? When I bought my bumper pull the sales guy said mine did not need a TX safety inspection because it did not meet the minimum GVWR, mine is 7,500#, I don't remember what the cut-off was.

It’s around 16k lbs. I’ve had to do the inspection every year, but this year. I’ve already paid & received my new registration...and I’m not giving it back! [emoji23]

I just looked it up, the cut-off is greater than 7,500#, you slipped through the cracks. It is not the $7 that is the problem but the hassle to get it done particularly when the registration is due in Feb and the trailer is tucked away for the winter.

Yes, Crestview in Selma. Second one I've bought from there.
