Texas toll roads

Spent the last month driving all over Texas.
As I live in Michigan, will I be receiving a bill for traveling on their toll roads?

I'm from Michigan also and spend the winter in Texas. I'm a full time RVer, so I have a personal mailbox, my driver's license, and my truck registration are in South Dakota. That really balls things up for the Texas tollway system. According to the lady I talked with, they have to submit a request for your address to the state in which your vehicle is registered, and it can take a while to get that information. Then I have to request my mail from my mail forwarding service and wait for it to arrive. All of that can take 2-3 months. But the Texas tollway system wants their money in 10 days.

I end up paying double the original fees in late fees and penalties!
I think I'm going online to purchase the tollway passport before I head back to Michigan in mid-April.

I made the mistake of asking an Illinois toll worker of my Texas Tag works there (many states are reciprocal). They said yes. So I didn't log in later to check. Oops, fees for late payment.

In most states you can log into their system, enter your license plate, and check your bill.

I live in Texas but have had some success in getting late penalties removed. You may want to call them and explain your situation.

Our last trip thru Florida... we paid the toll at the toll booth for the motorhome and trailer (bill is by # of axles) and then we received a toll-evasion citation in the mail a few months later for the Toyota that was on the trailer. It took months to fight that ticket / fine / penalty.

Texas toll roads are notorious for failing to send you an initial bill, and your very FIRST contact from them is a late notice with a pile of late fees tacked on.

I refuse to drive the toll roads in Texas.

Drove a few toll roads in the Midwest to New Englsnd a few years ago where there were live toll takers. More than once, they'd step up to the window and state the toll and then go, "Oops!"

I asked if there was a problem and the said they didn't see the trailer behind the TV and were only charging a vehicle toll. I offered to pay for the trailer, but they said, once it's rang up, it's all they can collect.

Well shucks!

We visit family in Texas every year for Thanksgiving. I usually get my toll bill in October of the following year, and yeah they demand payment in 10 days.

Going west, we were getting on the Kansas Turnpike.....and I assumed (falsely) that my Easy Pass would be accepted, so I blew thru the toll booths....about a month later the bill came in the mail.....no penalties, just the toll amount.

Call the tollway company and get a toll tag. It'll cut the bill almost in half.
You'll also have it for next time you travel.

TSD Open Roads now has a toll tag that will cover any tollroad in the U.S. according to their website. $20 annual fee and the transponder is $79.

rkymntsno, you are a genius. I have 3 different toll tags in my vehicles (2 TX on 1 NH), I will be reaching out to TDS to get one.
I did call them, $20 annual fee, $70 for the transponder, (no batteries or plug needed) and then only the toll fee, NO transaction charge.

I live in the Houston area and I refuse to use the toll roads. I won't pay for roads that are already paid for several times. It wouldn't save me much time anyway. I have my GPS set to avoid tolls.

Do yourself a favor and go to https://www.ntta.org/. The tag is free and it cuts the toll rate almost in half. You just link a credit card to the account. In addition, if you are a Legion of Valor recipient (thank you for your service!) NTTA offers free passage on all toll roads.

We were in Texas this winter and thought we would get a bill for the toll road. Come to find out they charged our Florida Sunpass. All Good

Kind of like they keep taxing us for roads and bridges already built and paid for.

Texas toll roads

Just another form of taxation in Texas.
