Thetford leaking toilet fixed thanks to this forum

https://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=1878

Just replaced the faulty valve on my Thetford toilet by myself after Thetford mailed me a new one under warranty. thanks to all who posted about this. It was an easy fix to an annoying problem.

I noticed a little moisture around the supply line fitting where it attaches to the toilet when I ran a little water after I was finished. Just wondering if anybody has ever had a problem with this line leaking where it threads into toilet or replaced this supply line with something of better quality. The line runs into the side of the bathroom cabinet and disappears from there. I guess it ties in somewhere near the back of the camper behind the cabinet.

I think that is where these forums really shine, helping folks troubleshoot problems or understand their RV better by sharing the actual experiences. Glad to hear your throne is now dry again on the outside!

I had that problem the first day. The nut wasn't tight from the supply line to the toilet. A half a turn and no problem. Just something that was overlooked at the factory.

Edatlanta,

I hope that's all it is a loose fitting and not a bad fitting. Time will tell!

I did he same thing to my 2010 19bh. Bad batch of valves. The plunger inside the valve was the wrong size which caused water to shoot up through the top of the valve when you filled the bowl. Thetford was on top of it. Changed it myself and the problem was solved.

They didn't catch that on the PDI?

A number of years ago my father-in-law had a smaller motorhome and we stopped at his house to hook up with him on a trip to Grand Teton National Park. His motorhome was leaking water from the corner where the bathroom was, but it has stopped leaking when we showed up so we thought no more of it. Got to the campground, filled up the water, turned on the pump and a little later the carpet in the bathroom was wet. Turned off pump, took toilet apart and the valve was broken. Went to the "service" station just outside the campground and found a grand total of two valves, fortunately, one of them was the right one. Put it on the toilet and problem fixed. We got lucky that they even had the "service" station there since they have now closed it. Glad you found that your problem wasn't too bad.

PDI didn't catch it Larry G. because it was just a drip. The hose was connected, it just wan't tight enough. After a few days I noticed water in the floor. It hasn't leaked since and that has been almost a year and a half.

We were concerned after Tafische posting about his toilet and some leaking water. We were close to end of warranty and decided to call Thetford to order the part before the warranty was up. They sent us one, but we still haven't needed it... but when we do, we will be ready! I would suggest anyone nearing their end of warranty with the same toilet giving Thetford a call and getting the part
