Angry This is a disturbing read

My neighbor sent a link to an article/opinion about roof covering. The source is RV.org. After some looking I found this: https://rv.org/blogs/news/will-thor-...confidential-5
I may be depressed for the rest of the evening.
😢

They like cash money and they’re making too much of it to do anything to Jayco.

Yeah, I know it’s “doom n gloom” and hope it’s an incorrect opinion. Maybe I’m over thinking this but there seem to be more quality issues compared to when I bought my last one (2014). Jayco still seems to be stepping up to the plate for warranty issues tho.
Like I said, maybe I’m just over thinking this.

We have a 2014 Whitehawk and looking to upgrade to a newer TT come next summer. We have had very few issues with are current TT but having serious doubts about Jayco due to their acquisition by Thor. With Thor's rep to cut costs and maximize profits we will take a serious look come next spring on reported issues, if they is an increase in issues and Jayco's response is to minimize them we will be looking at a non-thor\Forest River manufacture for are new TT. Sorry state of affairs to say the lest.

Unfortunately, what do you buy if you don't like Thor or Forest River. Between them don't they own 80+% of the RV business?

For me, if my 2017 23RS was destroyed right now, I probably wouldn't replace with a Jayco, but this is simply because they do not make the 23RB any longer.
If they took the 21QB and made it a 23QB and used that added length to add a separate wardrobe I'd love that model.

Anything is worth reading, this article presents one "investment" and even says Thor made some improvements, but the article is weak. Since the acquisition I haven't seen any drop in customer service from Jayco and that is usually the first thing to go. In addition, whenever there is a merger or acquisition there is attrition due to duplicate departments, etc. Let's keep reporting on real problems and document if quality is falling.

Seriously looking at both Lance and Grand Design and GD is owned by Winnebago. Neither one of these are owned by Thor or Forest River.

Can't help myself on this, spent 20 years as a QA Manager in manufacturing and am shocked at the attitude that manufacturing defects are "normal" or to be "expected". Defects in a brand new product is not normal or should not be expected. It is not up to the owner, us, or the dealer to find them and fix them. This is shoddy manufacturing at best or complete lack of caring at worst. Watching videos that describing the manufacturing process and it always ends with a final QC inspection at the end of the process, you don't get a quality product this way it must be built in and not allowed to happen during manufacturing. At best a final QA will only catch 80% of the problems, refer to the Pareto principal.

Rant over

Also look at Thor's rep at building a quality product, it is one of the worsts. I'm not optimistic on the change but we shall see.

And that's warranty requested August 2017 before warranty expired.Good article keep it out there on the web. Thanks

Is it really an uptick in lower quality, or, because they are making so many more units than in the past, you see more units with issues...1% of 50,000 units Is a lot fewer than 1% of 300,000 units. We dont' see Jayco changing from 2 X 3 roof structure to 2 X 2, or going from 5/8" ply floors to 1/2" OSB floors, no... I think it's just gossip to fill a blog. My previous RV was made by thor and actually I think it was build stronger than Jayco...Frame was stronger, floors were better reinforced etc.

I'm not concerned until we see actual items they are changing. Most people have very few issues, or none.

Apparently these guys ORV | Outdoors RV Manufacturing make the highest quality TT's on the market but you're gonna pay.

You don't want to hear about the horror stories from my friend who bought a new Winnebago TT.

The article was published in April 2017, 1 year ago. My 2018 Jayco Pinnacle was top quality, only improving with the change in management. Sounds like a “what if” article, not based in facts.
