Thoughts on Slide Out Awnings
Mine came with the Solera prep on them but not sure if I want/need them. What are your thoughts and opinions on them?

Personally I would not own an RV without them. Keeps tree debris and such from accumulating on the top of your slide. If I didn't have them I would have to check the top of each slide and use a leaf blower to clean them off before retracting them.

The RV I have now is the first one I have owned that didn't have them. I thought I would add them shortly after purchase but then I waited one season to see if not having them was a big issue. Turns out for me, I don't miss them one bit, the flapping in the wind, one more thing to clean, in any case I would go one season w/o them seeing how that is easy to do and then make up your mind. Here is a tip, I use a "selfie" stick on my phone camera to take a picture of the slide-out top anytime I think something could be up there prior to pulling in the slide. If you do this, be sure to purchase a selfie stick that is long enough, mine is about 5' long and works well. ~CA

Just had slide toppers installed and I think the one over the kitchen slide doesn’t have enough fall. It collected quite a bit of water this morning while it was raining. Is that normal? Anything to worry about?

Our first trailer (used) had slide toppers on it, so we didnt know what it was like without them. Our 2nd trailer (brand new) didnt have any. Really didnt miss them because I was too preoccupied with all the stuff that was constantly going wrong with it. Ended up dumping that thing and got our Northpoint. We went about a half a season without them and it went right back to the dealer and got slide toppers installed on all 5 slides. It has to be REALLY windy to hear them making any noise out there. If it rains water will pool up a little bit on them but when it's done raining I'll pull the slides in and right back out again.

X2. All of my campers have had slide toppers, wouldn't be without them. If ordering a camper, have the factory do the install, it's cheaper.

I like them because they......,
* Protect the horizontal wiper/bulb seals and roofing material from UV.
* Minimize risk of moisture intrusion.
* Interior slide space remains cooler during those hot sun-beating days.

Had same issue on both rear slides on our Eagle. Dealer installed the slide covers. The big slide on drivers side got a center support added and the spring tightened up. The door side slide was almost dead flat, so it had a second mounting strip added about 3 inches higher on side wall of trailer. Now neither slide holds water. Both covered under warranty at dealer

I'm in Kansas and it's always windy so that flapping is a concern for me. That is a great tip with the selfie stick! thanks

The factory already installed mounting bracket on slides and the long bar the material slides into, so looks pretty easy for installing when I researched it. 2 person DIY job with no drilling.

That might make it worth getting them. I have 3 slides so that's a lot of extra heat on top.

Love them. If I bought a rig that didn’t have them they would get installed ASAP for all the reasons already mentioned. I’ll add they give the rig a little more finished look as well.

Crap still gets under them! Hard to clean slide topper.
I'm with selfish stick guy, sweep or blow.
I'm in the never own them group.

I’ve always had them. While I do lament the flapping you sometimes get if windy, I prefer to have them for all the other positive reasons cited above.

Question,
With Slide Toppers, do you need to retract the slides when it gets windy? Without the slide toppers, you don't need to worry about retracting the slide when it gets windy.

I've never retracted the slides when windy. Been in up to 50 mph gust with no problems. If your slide toppers are taunt there should be no problem. I've seen rv's with slide toppers that sag as much as 6" and that is a problem. It's the constant flapping and tugging that causes damage.

I haven't had any issues with modest windy conditions with my topper, but I do bring my slide(s) in the event of a forecasted storm with medium-plus hail, or "extreme" wind conditions (even without a topper).
During my multi-month winter stays I slide a PVC support under my topper and that keeps the topper snug during those unexpected heavy/windy storms.
Also, I apply Arespace 303 a couple times a year on the topper thus minimizing fabric stretching.
