While waxing my smooth sided tt this eve I saw a 1 inch crack on the slide where the bracket for the topper is attached. Pretty sure I know the fix but dread the thought of drilling into my newer to me camper. Looking for any ideas! I also dread the thought of ignoring it and have it get worse

That is a tough call. I hate to see you just leave it since it is likely to spread over time. But, like you said, the thought of starting that repair isn't great either.
Myself, I would probably just bite the bullet and try and stop the crack.
