Tips on Keeping Dirt Out of RV

I do a lot of camping in places where it is awfully easy to introduce dirt, dust, sand, etc. into my travel trailer/RV. I was wondering what tips you might have for keeping dirt, dust, sand, etc. outside.

So far I have decided to:

* Storing shoes in a zipper bag inside RV
* Keeping a pair of sandals outside to use inside the RV
* Get a CGear Sand-Free Multimat for use outside the RV
* I am thinking about getting a boot scraper/brush

Any other clever ideas, tips, and tricks?

I have something like a Sand freeMultimat at the bottom of my steps and a rug just inside the door.

I really don't do much at all. First requirement when we were looking at tt's; NO carpet at all.

We have a carpet sample just inside the door, it collects a lot of the sand and debris. Next, we have a broom stashed behind our Jsofa, sweep as needed. Once in a while if we are going some where we know is super sand, we might bring our cordless vacuum. Otherwise a little dirt is generally healthy.

As for dusting, I don't think I have ever noticed dust in our htt, may be it's to small and you are always using every space, so it cannot get dusty. In general, we give it a cleaning when we get home.

I spend 4 months each summer (5 years in a row now) hosting at the beach in Florida. The first summer sand just about drove me crazy getting inside. After that first year I bought an adjustable height step to put under my onboard steps to the door. I then went to Lowes or Home Depot, I forget which, and bought a section of astro turf material the same width of the step. This piece was much longer than needed so I just cut off the right amount for one application to the step surface and attached it to the metal surface with liquid nails. I have enough material to replace it several times, but the first piece is still going strong after 4 years.

I just hose it off occasionally and it catches 90+% of the sand that was getting in. I'm very pleased with it and the step is nice when it is a bit high to the first RV step.

Shoes off at bottom of steps. Capital door mat from CW for bulky removal followed by Ruggids over my steps which get the fine dust off then a ruggid mat inside the door. This combo has seriously kept dirt to 75% less than a rubber mat and cheaper step wraps.

A ground carpet also helps.

Makes me wonder...do they make something to go on the steps up to the RV to help catch dirt on your way in?

Wheels are turnin'...

Another way to remove sand from bare feet (or sand toys) is to dip them in a container of water. Sand is heavier than water and will immediately fall to the bottom of the container.

We bought some microfiber rugs from a pet supply. They look like old shag carpet but they trap any dirt from our feet and the dogs inside the rig. We remove our shoes while in the camper. er, the dogs are already barefoot.

Baby powder works great on getting sand off people, especially kids. Sprinkle a bit on the sandy areas, wipe it off, and the sand comes right off.

Yes, but pay the extra and get the Ruggids. The cheapo ones go flat and do nothing after a few trips. The Ruggids are molded with ribs to really wipe your feet good and they do not hold anything so you can sweep them easily. The only downside to them are the cheap zip ties that hold them. If you break some call them and they will send you a bunch to secure.

We picked up one of those grated folding steps from AMAZON...

You can stomp the heck out of these things with doing any harm to them...

I didn't have much problems with leaves and other woods things until I put down carpet squares on the POPUP trailer floor... May have been a big mistake for me and tracking in things... Sure is a nice warm floor in the morning when you first hit the floor however...

Having a nice large patio rug helps us big time...

Leaving the grandkids at home noticeably reduces the dirt tracked in.

You can wrap it in a plastic bag, store in in a climate controlled warehouse, it'll stay clean.

I say... take a broom, enjoy life, clean up later... Camp on the beach, the mountains, wherever... bring the dogs, the kids, the grand kids, let them eat bacon, pancakes with syrup, just chill out and have fun... it'll all clean up later
