Tire Minder Question

I am considering a Tire Mender or similar monitoring system for the tires on my White Hawk. I have read that the transmitters may break or tear the rubber valve stems as a result of the added weight during tire rotation. Is this a concern?

I used a different brand for the last 4,000 miles and no problems. As part of your pre-trip inspection take a look at the stems for any problems in any case. Some recommend steel valve bodies with them but I just have standard rubber ones.

I know that a bunch of people swear by them but from what I have seen and read over the last 20+ years, other than with a slow leak, by the time you see a warning on the monitor, your tire has gone flat at 65 mph or blown and torn up the wheel well and everything around it. Just MHO.

I’ve had a TM TPMS for 9-ish years and have experienced 2 dramatic tire failures (thank you TowMax!). My TM started squealing, I looked in the rear view and spotted the whole tread belt still flopping in the road behind me. I started braking and moving to the shoulder and got stopped.. The tire looked like a medieval steel flail. Later inspection of the wheel well area revealed only cosmetic damage. My neighbor who has no TPMS experienced a failure and it went unnoticed until someone alerted him. You could see holes in the wells, recently repaired to the tune of $5000.
I respect your 20 yrs of trailering but my experience (less than half that) has convinced me a TPMS is invaluable and can prevent major collateral damage.

Put the tst tpms on before my last trip. The rubber stems that tst claims they are compatible with flexed enough that the sensors marked up my wheels while moving.

Swap them out for metal valve stems and your problem is solved.

Strongly suggest you install metal valve stems along with sensors. Had major problems with rubbber ones.
